Williamsburg County SC Woman Charged with Embezzlement

A former Kingstree-based county official, Sherrie Wallace Footman, has been charged with embezzlement of public funds, as declared by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED). The 57-year-old was formerly employed with the Williamsburg County Water and Sewer services as the office manager responsible for the safekeeping, transfer, and disbursement of public funds.

Footman was apprehended by SLED on May 20 and was transported to the Williamsburg County Detention Center. Soon after her arrest, a bond of $10,000 was set and posted the same day. Footman has been charged with embezzlement of public funds surpassing the amount of $10,000.

Between 2015 and 2023 Employment

According to an issued arrest warrant, Ms. Footman served as the office manager for the Williamsburg County Water and Sewer services between August 2015 to January 2023. She had a crucial role in the safekeeping, transfer, and disbursement of public funds. However, the period between January 2018 to November 2022 witnessed a misappropriation of $150,000.94 of these public funds, the arrest warrant indicates.
