Punta Gorda Welcomes a Stunning New Golf Course: Webbs Reserve Golf Club
Located just 50 miles south of Sarasota on Florida’s southwest coast, the brand new Webbs Reserve Golf Club has opened its doors to public play in sunny Punta Gorda. This exciting 18-hole course, designed by the talented team at Nicklaus Design, is part of the soon-to-be-thriving community of Webbs Reserve at Babcock Ranch, which is currently under development by Lennar. If you’re a golf lover, you’re going to want to circle this on your calendar!
A Course for Everyone
With a par-72 layout stretching over 7,034 yards, Webbs Reserve promises a delightful experience for golfers of all skills. The course winds its way across beautiful coastal plains and wetlands, featuring an impressive twenty lakes that come into play on each hole, adding both beauty and a bit of challenge. Andrew McGrath, the head golf professional, couldn’t be more excited about the course, saying, “Webbs Reserve is a fantastic layout that truly has something for everyone!”
The design cleverly blends more challenging holes with some that are more forgiving, so whether you’re a seasoned pro or a weekend warrior, you can both test your skills and relax while playing. Some holes are thoughtfully crafted to give you the chance to play strategically, while others encourage you to take some bold shots depending on your playing style.
Immerse Yourself in Nature
What really sets Webbs Reserve apart is the gorgeous natural scenery that surrounds the course. McGrath points out, “It’s not just a round of golf; it’s a chance to immerse yourself in the beauty of south Florida.” With its unique flora and fauna, playing a round here will feel like an escape into nature.
Renovations at Wentworth’s East Course
On the other side of the pond, the prestigious Wentworth Club in Surrey, England, is making waves with some major renovation news. Known for its celebrated West course, a regular host of significant championships since its inception in 1926, Wentworth is turning its attention to the East course.
Rather than completely redesign the East course, club officials have decided to undertake a full restoration. Partnering with European Golf Design, they aim to return the par-68, 6,201-yard course to its original heathland roots. This is an exciting project for golf enthusiasts, as renovations will include updating infrastructure and enhancing course features, all while staying true to the classic designs.
History Meets Modernity
The changes won’t stop there! The team will begin examining archived materials to ensure every aspect of the East is brought back to life properly. They’ll be realigning bunkers, reworking green complexes, and even managing trees. If you’re a fan of personalized golf experiences, this is a development worth following!
Glencoe Golf and Country Club in Alberta Approves Renovation Plans
Sowing the Seeds of Modernization
The renovation focuses on the Women’s Lakes and Slopes nines of the Meadows course. After years of evaluation, club leadership is excited about addressing several outdated aspects of the course. The plans include rerouting paths to reduce green-to-tee walks and improving the scenic beauty by removing artificial shaping work.
Moreover, tree clearing and strategic planning will ensure that golfers enjoy a thoughtfully designed experience set within a breathtaking river valley. The proposed changes should give golfers a clean canvas with plenty of opportunities for varied strategies on the course. Work is anticipated to kick off in fall 2025, with the goal of opening the revamped course by 2026.
