Fully Renovated Facility Providing Home & Hope for Veterans

Welcoming Veterans to their New Home

In Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, a fully renovated former nursing home, now called the NardMoor facility, stands as a beacon of hope and warmth for veterans in need. Joey Smoak, CEO of the Eastern Carolina Housing Organization (ECHO), aptly sums up the sentiment around the project: “It’s awesome…if I had to put it in one word.”

ECHO plays a profound role in supporting homeless veterans and through this endeavor, they have set a new precedent in temporary housing. Providing not only a stable shelter, the NardMoor facility also offers a wide range of resources to help the veterans take their first steps towards a new chapter of life.

A Top of the Line Temporary Housing Facility

The NardMoor facility can accommodate up to 40 veterans at a time and is equipped with modern amenities to ensure a comfortable stay. The renovations include new roofing, flooring, a commercial kitchen and ample space for residents to relax and socialize.

Impressively, the facility has garnered broad acclaim, earning recognition as the crown jewel for temporary housing in the entire Region 7, which includes Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina. The Veterans Affairs Department now sees it as their best practice model.

Transforming Lives and Providing Hope

The best testimony to the facility’s success comes from its residents. Army Veteran, Prezzie Haney, found NardMoor to be instrumental in his battle against substance abuse. Initiatives like having a personalised space and access to resources such as assistance with VA claims, medical trips, and job applications, have helped turn his life around.

“I didn’t know how helpful it would be for me, but in reality, it was the greatest place I could ever come as far as to better my life and get my life back on track,” Haney shared. This sentiment is echoed by many residents at the facility, speaking volumes about the transformative impact of the program.

Responding to the Call of Duty

The NardMoor facility is a tribute to the commitment and sacrifices of those who have served our country. Giving back to them in this way translates to a newfound freedom, a stepping stone towards independence, and a safe place they can call home.

Smoak put it best by saying, “These people served our country and to say it’s a gratitude for their service would be an understatement.” Weighed with humble gratitude, these words capture the essence of the mission at NardMoor, providing a sanctuary where heroes are given their due.

If you know of a veteran who could benefit from a stay at NardMoor or if you are looking to lend a helping hand, all are invited to get involved and contribute to this noble cause.
