The UNI women’s golf team kicked off their 2024-25 spring season at the Rust Buster Match Play in Florida, facing challenges and triumphs. Despite a tough start against Ball State, standout performances from Anna Nacos and Anna Jensen highlighted their determination. The Panthers showed resilience, eventually clinching a victory over Western Illinois in the final round. Their next challenge is the SDSU Jackrabbit Invitational. The sun-soaked greens of Florida welcomed the UNI women’s golf team as they launched into their 2024-25 spring season. Competing in the Rust Buster Match Play at the spectacular Kings Ridge Golf Club, hosted by Murray State, the Panthers faced a mix of challenges and triumphs.
Unfortunately, the first round didn’t quite go as hoped. The Panthers found themselves up against Ball State and wrapped up the match with a disappointing score of 4.5-1.5. It was undeniably a challenging day for the team. However, there was a silver lining! Anna Nacos notched a remarkable victory, taking down Sophie Korthujis 2&1, finishing with a solid score of 79 (+10) after 17 holes.
Meanwhile, Anna Jensen showcased her talent by managing a tie against JJ Gregston, with an impressive round of +2 (74), marking the best score for any Panther in this match. Sadly, not everything went the Panthers’ way, as Victoria HualdeSarah Gallagher, conceding her match 6&5 after just 13 holes with a +7 score (60).
Freshman Isabella Pettersen and Rylie Driskell also faced tough challenges, losing their matches by 5&4 and one down, respectively. McKenna Mallow
As the second round rolled around, the Panthers clashed with Drake and just missed the mark, losing narrowly with a final score of 3.5-2.5. Anna JensenAmber Henson by a whopping 6&5, playing an impressive -2 through 13 holes. McKenna Mallow

In what turned out to be a thrilling conclusion of the tournament, UNI roared back with a commanding 5-1 victory over Western Illinois. The Panthers truly returned to form, with Anna Nacos

The UNI women’s golf team is all set to continue their adventure at the upcoming SDSU Jackrabbit Invitational, scheduled for March 10-11 at the Boulder Creek Golf Club. After their spirited performances in Florida, optimism fills the air as they head into their next challenge.
