Just recently, he took on the interim leadership role for University Belonging and Student Affairs in early December 2024, showcasing his readiness to serve and support students even during challenging times.

A Legacy of Service

Before stepping into his most recent role, Overton was the vice president of student rights and responsibilities/dean of students. He was deeply involved in a multitude of areas related to student affairs, encompassing everything from housing and fraternity and sorority life to student conduct and resources for off-campus students. Such diverse expertise makes his loss even harder to understand, as he was a pivotal figure in fostering a lively and supportive campus environment.

The president of CCU, along with many faculty and staff, shared that Overton was one of the best colleagues anyone could hope for. His strength of character, along with his empathy and remarkable ability to diffuse tense situations, definitely made him a treasured friend and ally in the university community. Overton’s warmth and selflessness did not go unnoticed, as he built cherished relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members alike.

Outside of his work at CCU, Overton was known for his active community involvement. He served as the vice president on the board of Conway Downtown Alive, where he dedicated his time to enhancing the local area. Additionally, he was an esteemed member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and took pride in advising the African American Initiative for Men at the university.
