Track and Field Set to Open Outdoor Season at Myrtle Beach Challenge

Coastal Carolina University Athletics

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men’s and women’s track and field team is set to open its 2024 spring outdoor season tomorrow at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Chants ended their winter indoor season on Feb. 20 with the completion of the Sun Belt Conference Championships in Birmingham, Ala.

Senior Molly Jones claimed CCU’s first top-place finish of the meet and a Sun Belt Conference record in the women’s 3000m event with a time of 9:25.94, beating out James Madison’s Miranda Stanhope by a full five seconds. Freshman Ebba Hedberg took home Coastal’s second top finish in the women’s high jump with a final distance of 1.73m.

In this weekend’s challenge, Coastal will compete against 20 participating schools, including in-state opponents College of Charleston, Columbia International, North Greenville, The Citadel, and USC Aiken. The Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge will open tomorrow morning with the men’s and women’s long jump at 10 A.M. ET.
