Actor Tony Cavalero Lends Support to Overcrowded South Carolina Animal Shelter: Uses Fame to Advocate for Kitten Adoption

South Carolina Shelter Overrun with Hundreds of Kittens Gets Boost from Noted Actor Tony Cavalero

An influx of kittens

In an unbelievable tale of generosity and kindness, actor Tony Cavalero has come forward to lend a hand to a Charleston, South Carolina animal shelter grappling with hundreds of kittens. As a self-proclaimed animal person and a staunch advocate for animal rescue and adoption, Cavalero was deeply pained by the news about the shelter’s dire situation.

Charleston Animal Society in Crisis

Rife with various animals like puppies, dogs, cats, and even bunnies and guinea pigs, the Charleston Animal Society is currently housing an astounding number of 604 kittens, much beyond its capacity for a mere 250 animals. This precarious situation urged Cavalero to volunteer his time back home and fervently promote the shelter’s urgent call for people to foster and adopt kittens.

Advocacy through Fame

From growing up in a house teeming with different pets to currently being a pet parent to two rescue dogs, Tony Cavalero’s connection with animals is quite palpable. As part of his service towards his furry friends, Cavalero took this opportunity to magnify the shelter’s plea through his social media presence. With his widespread fame from popular shows like “The Righteous Gemstones” and “School of Rock”, he managed to reach a wider population and garner much-needed attention for the Charleston shelter.

A Looming Emergency

June being the height of kitten season, coupled with a decline in spay and neuter surgeries during the pandemic and development in Charleston forcing stray animals out of hiding, the shelter found itself in hot water. Overcrowding is proving detrimental to the health and well-being of the kittens, with CEO Joe Elmore stating, “This is the only time in those 12 years I’ve had to bring in an additional air-conditioned trailer.” The severity of the crisis is underscored by the shelter setting up popup pens in the hallways – a far from ideal situation that sadly leads to more animals falling ill.

Cavalero’s Unwavering Support

Actor Tony Cavalero’s dedication to the cause did not just end with his social media advocacy. He physically volunteered at the Charleston Animal Society, dedicating time and effort to help mitigate the crisis situation. Despite having a busy shooting schedule with his upcoming film “Lips Like Sugar” also featuring Woody Harrelson and Owen Wilson, Cavalero made sure to return to the shelter next week to lend a hand.

Call for Action

The Charleston Animal Society, overwhelmed with the multitude of kittens, is standing strong in these challenging times, vehemently pushing for increased adoptions or fosters. It is indeed a critical moment for not just the shelter, but for animal lovers far and wide. Those interested in fostering, adopting, or donating can visit the Charleston Animal Society’s website for more information.
