Exciting Changes Underway at Tidewater Golf Club in North Myrtle Beach!

North Myrtle Beach is buzzing with excitement as one of its beloved golf courses, Tidewater Golf Club, embarks on a significant renovation project that is set to transform the golfing experience for both seasoned players and newcomers alike. And guess what? It’s all about the bunkers!

What’s Happening with the Bunkers?

Brett Foti, the director of sales and marketing at Tidewater, shared that the course is in the midst of reshaping its existing bunkers. So far, the renovations have been completed on seven holes, specifically holes seven through nine and 15-18. Foti mentioned via text that these newly renovated holes will be getting a fresh layer of sod the week of December 9, 2024.

Open for Business!

You won’t have to wait long to enjoy these changes, as Tidewater will remain open during renovations. They’ll be closing just one hole at a time, making it convenient for golfers eager to hit the greens. “It’s exciting to see these changes take shape,” Foti said. The aim is to refresh the course’s design while maintaining its classic charm, resulting in a more enjoyable experience for visitors.

What’s the Plan?

The course is not just shaping bunkers but is also planning to remove some select ones to increase playability for golfers of all skill levels. According to Foti, these updates will align with the overall design of the course, making it a welcoming spot for everyone—beginners and pros alike!

A New Era Under New Ownership

This renovation comes less than two years after KemperSports took ownership of Tidewater Golf Club in August 2023. Known for managing high-end courses across the United States, KemperSports sees great potential in Tidewater, a course that has previously earned accolades from various golf publications.

Investing in the Golfing Experience

In an interview, KemperSports Chief Operating Officer Jeremy Goldblatt acknowledged that the course was in good shape when the company acquired it, which minimized the need for drastic upgrades. However, the current bunkers project will still require a significant investment of hundreds of thousands of dollars, although Goldblatt did not disclose an exact figure.

Goldblatt emphasized that these renovations are part of a growing trend to improve playability. “You want a chance to score well; you want a chance to be in the hole after your first shot,” he explained. He believes that while golf shouldn’t be too easy, giving players options and a fair chance is essential.

Golfing Community Reaction

The anticipation for these renovations is palpable among golf enthusiasts in the area. In 2024, readers even voted Tidewater their third-favorite course in the Myrtle Beach region, and it claimed a respectable second place in the previous year’s rankings. With such positive feedback, it’s clear that golfers appreciate what Tidewater has to offer.

What Lies Ahead?

As the renovation progresses, golfers can expect an updated yet familiar landscape on the course. There’s no doubt that these enhancements will put a fresh spin on this cherished North Myrtle Beach course while respecting its rich history and classic vibe.

So whether you’re a regular at Tidewater or thinking about trying it out for the first time, keep an eye on this exciting transformation. Grab your clubs and get ready for a whole new experience in 2024!
