Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The thrilling spectacle of the Special Forces Parachute Team soaring over the Carolina Country Music Fest (CCMF) had the crowd completely captivated this past Sunday. Following an impressive beach landing directly behind the main stage, the crowd was treated to a heart-stirring rendition of the national anthem, backed by the roar of two military jet engines as they tore through the sky.
The national anthem, cradling the soaring scores of the overfly, lent a moving tenor to an already emotional day – the last of this year’s CCMF. The Special Forces Parachute Team’s display unspooled across the sky, symbolizing the courage, dedication, and discipline of the nation’s finest.
“It was breathtaking,” commented team member Greg Hales. Having previously served as a parachute rigger and paratrooper in the Marines, Hales is no stranger to sky-filling spectacle. This was, however, his third time parachuting onto Myrtle Beach, adding, “We had a sub-terminal opening, meaning opening slow. Once I got that figured out, then I burned my pants firing my smoke, but it turned out to be ok. We all landed safe on the beach on time.”
Hales conveyed his sincere appreciation for the observable level of patriotism and military respect that was palpable at the CCMF. He plans to be part of this sky-piercing display again at next year’s festival. The closing act of the festival was the chart-topping performer, Carrie Underwood.
The overarching theme of military tribute was encapsulated perfectly with the Special Forces Parachute Team, creating an unforgettable spectacle whilst celebrating service and sacrifice. Beach-goers and country music fans alike were treated to an unforgettable display of bravery on the final day of the CCMF, perfectly blurring the lines between military exhibitionism and patriotic celebration.
Beyond an electrifying musical experience, the CCMF unfailingly delivers an atmosphere echoing with appreciation for the military – distinguished guests of honor that remind the crowd of the cost of freedom even while they enjoy the sun, the sand, and the music.
The aerial performance added a layer of patriotic pride to the country music event, reminding attendees of the bravery and sacrifice of servicemen and women. Concertgoers returned home carrying not only the beat of their favorite songs, but also a renewed appreciation for the nation’s soldiers and their sky-high commitment to duty, honor, and country.
