Dates announced for South Carolina’s tax-free weekend

Annual tax-free weekend offering relief for shoppers

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The much-anticipated tax-free weekend in South Carolina is coming up soon. The South Carolina Department of Revenue made the announcement on Tuesday, marking the dates from August 2 to August 4. During this period, certain items like school supplies, computers, printers, clothing, and various bed and bath items can be bought without the burden of state sales tax. And yes, online purchases are included as well.

However, some items are not eligible for the tax-free benefit. These include digital cameras, smartphones, jewelry, eyewear, and furniture.

Relief amid inflation woes

“As inflation continues to drain many wallets, this year’s tax-free weekend offers some relief for weary families,” said Hartley Powells, the Director of SCDOR, with a promise that “Every shopper saves money during this tax holiday, particularly on back-to-school essentials.”

According to the SCDOR, last year’s tax-free weekend was a storming success, with the shoppers in the state spending over $30 million. Remarkably, the savings on sales taxes alone approached nearly $2 million. Click here for more information.
