SCHP: Moped Driver Dies Days After Socastee-Area Crash

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — A tragic accident unfolded in Horry County earlier this week when a moped driver succumbed to injuries sustained in a traffic mishap. The South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) confirms that the victim died a few days after the initial incident. The fatal accident occurred Tuesday afternoon on S.C. 707 near Figure Eight Road, just south of Socastee.

The Incident

According to the SCHP, the moped driver was heading westbound on Figure Eight Road when they collided with a Mitsubishi SUV that was traveling southbound on S.C. 707. The moped driver sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash and was promptly taken to a nearby hospital. Despite the immediate medical attention, the moped driver tragically lost their life on Thursday. At the time of the report, the identity of the victim has not yet been disclosed.

Investigation Underway

The authorities reported that the Mitsubishi SUV had three passengers at the time of the collision. Fortunately, none of them were injured in the crash. The driver, whose identity has also not been revealed, was not harmed as well. The accident is currently under investigation by the SCHP.
