Sponsor Our ArticlesIn a shocking turn of events at a local gas station in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, victims of an armed robbery attempted to restrain the suspect by physically holding onto his car as he made an exit. The key suspect, Davon Stephens, aged 19, is currently facing charges of armed robbery, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, hit-and-run, and a failure to provide necessary aid or information.
As per the details shared by the local police, they were alerted about the robbery on the afternoon of July 22nd. The crime targeted a gas station situated along Oleander Drive. Speaking to the authorities, one of the victims narrated that they had entered the store for a beverage, unwittingly being followed by the suspect. Stephens reportedly observed the victim’s handling of cash during the checkout process.
According to the victim’s statement, the suspect struck immediately as they exited the store, snatching a considerable amount of cash and other valuables before threatening them with a firearm. The stolen items included $7,000 in cash, two iPhones, multiple credit cards, and the victims’ wallets.
In a notable act of bravery, the victims decided to counteract the criminal. Despite the tangible threat of incurring grave injuries, they courageously followed the suspect to his car and clung onto it, aiming to prevent him from fleeing. Unfortunately, Stephens managed to take off, causing the victims to fall off and sustain injuries. Post the incident, a separate police report was filed, stating the victims’ past actions.
After a thorough investigation, the Myrtle Beach police apprehended Davon Stephens on August 13th. Following his arrest, Stephens was booked at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center, where he remains in custody without a set bond. As per police records, apart from the initial robbery, the suspect also has charges of hit and run and failing to render aid or provide information.
The police forces are committed to moving ahead with the investigation, ensuring justice is served duly for all parties involved in the unpleasant event. Authorities are also advising local residents to maintain vigilance and caution in similar public spaces, urging anyone with further information regarding the incident to come forward. As things stand, the public and the victims look on as they hope for a swift and fair conclusion of the endeavor.
