Report Cards Are In: Horry County Schools Shine Bright!
Hello, Myrtle Beach! It’s that time of year again when report cards come out, but don’t worry, we’re not talking about your kiddos’ individual grades just yet. Nope, the South Carolina Department of Education has just released the report cards for schools across the state, and we can’t wait to share how our schools in Horry County stacked up this year!
Spotlight on Performance
As always, these report cards evaluate schools based on key indicators like academic achievement, graduation rates, student progress, and college and career readiness. Each school gets rated on a 100-point scale, which ultimately plays a part in determining whether they fall into the categories of excellent, good, average, below average, or unsatisfactory.
Guess what? Out of 57 schools in our beloved Horry County, approximately 26% scored an excellent rating, while 44% earned a good rating. That’s right—our schools are doing great with only 28% of them falling into the average category and a teeny 2% landing unsatisfactorily. And here’s the kicker: No school fell below the average rating this time around!
Top Honors Go to HCS Scholars Academy
Now, let’s give a big shout-out to HCS Scholars Academy High School in Conway! These talented students earned a jaw-dropping 99 points out of 100, making them the highest scoring school in the entire state! Impressive, right? This awesome program allows students in eighth grade to apply and earn not just their high school diplomas but also college credits through Advanced Placement and dual-enrollment courses at Coastal Carolina University.
Individual scores for categories like academic achievement and school climate at HCS Scholars Academy showed they’re clearly doing something right.

We have 16 schools that fell into the average category:

And there’s only one little hiccup to report: the elementary division of Academy of Hope Public Charter School received an unsatisfactory rating—specifically struggling with student progress and academic achievement. However, they did manage a good rating for school climate, so it’s not all bad news!
