Who doesn’t love chowing down at our fantastic local restaurants? From fresh seafood to savory sushi, there’s always something delicious on offer. But what if I told you that some of our beloved dining spots had a few hiccups recently? Yep, that’s right! According to some recent inspections by the South Carolina Department of Agriculture, a few establishments have found themselves under the spotlight for less-than-ideal conditions. Let’s dive into the details!
Now, before you start canceling dinner plans, it’s important to keep things light and get informed. The inspections took place between August 23 and August 30, and while many places scored just fine, a few stumbled a bit. So, without further ado, let’s check out the scores and some of the specific issues found!
Location: 740 Oak Forest Lane, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577
Score: 78
During a routine inspection on August 23, Tasty Crab House had some challenges. They found raw shrimp hanging out at unsafe temperatures and oysters that weren’t dated or organized properly. There were also ready-to-eat foods without date markings, and yikes – some food was stored on the floor! Talk about a no-no! A follow-up inspection is coming up soon, so let’s keep our fingers crossed for them!
Location: 1206 S. Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577
Score: 82
Next on our list is Manta Sushi, where the August 28 inspection raised a few eyebrows. Raw dishes like fish, cream cheese, and cooked chicken were found at unsafe temperatures. They also had issues with their cleaning supplies, such as the chlorine dish machine lacking proper sanitizer levels. Let’s hope they can iron out these wrinkles before their follow-up on September 8!
Location: 4359 Highway 17 Bypass, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576
Score: 83
Over at the VFW Post 10420, inspection on August 28 revealed some mold and bacteria in the ice machine, and various foods weren’t stored at the right temperatures. They even had some food contact items stored on the floor. Oh no! They’ll also have another look on September 8 to ensure improvements are made.
Location: 154 Sapwood Road Ste. 105, Myrtle Beach, SC 29579
Score: 83
Getting a similar score, Flaming Fin had its own share of challenges noted during an inspection July 30. They were found with *dried food on utensils*, which is a bit concerning if you’re a fan of clean eating! The inspectors also noted flies hanging out in places they shouldn’t be, and some frozen sauces were chilling in the wrong boxes. They’ve got a follow-up on September 10, so we hope they’ll get back on track.
Location: 3456 Sea Mountain Highway, Little River, SC 29566
Score: 84
Last but not least is Billy the Kid’s, where inspectors found rodent droppings – yikes! They also spotted steak stored improperly and a bunch of unclean surfaces that could use some TLC. As with the others, they’ll be getting checked again on September 7. We’re rooting for them!
And there you have it – a little update on some of the spots in our foodie paradise that need to shape up. As we all know, dining out is one of our favorite pastimes, and it’s essential to ensure the places we love are safe and clean. Let’s keep supporting our local hotspots while also being informed about their health scores. Remember, a little awareness goes a long way in keeping our dining experiences enjoyable and safe!
