Grand Strand, SC – Tropical Storm Debby continues its harrowing journey up the coast, wreaking havoc and causing power outages in its wake.
>The storm’s effects are being felt especially in the Grand Strand area, where it’s estimated that over 3,500 residents are grappling with power outages.
Power outages are currently being reported across both the Grand Strand and Pee Dee regions. Among the most affected areas are Murrells Inlet and parts of Horry County. Various reports indicate that some areas are experiencing sporadic blackouts, compounding the difficulties caused by the storm.
An estimated 2,400 people on Tuesday morning were without electricity, and the number has since increased to over 3,500. The situation continues to worsen as Debby retains its strength.
Electricity service providers in the region have been working tirelessly to restore power. Crews from Horry Electric, Duke Energy, Santee Cooper, and MPD are on the ground, trying to minimize the impact of the outages on locals.
Horry Electric, at the moment, has no reported outages. However, residents experiencing blackouts can report to them on (843) 369-2212. They have provided an online link to monitor current outages in the region.
In the Quinby area of Florence County, Duke Energy is handling about 90 outages. They have provided an online link for current outages and can be reached at (800) 419-6356 to report an outage.
Santee Cooper is dealing with approximately 100 customers without power and has provided an online link for customers to monitor current outages. To report an outage, residents can call 1-888-769-7688.
Finally, MPD is dealing with two reported outages in Dillon. They also have an online page dedicated to current outages, and can be contacted at 866-747-0060 to report an outage.
Residents are advised to stay safe and follow all given instructions to mitigate the effects of the storm as it continues uprooting powerlines and causing extensive damage. It is hoped that as Debby moves further up the coast, its intensity will decrease, reducing the impact on remaining areas.
This situation underscores the importance of emergency preparedness, and citizens are reminded to always be ready to act in the event of natural disasters.
Our hearts go out to those affected, and we trust in the resilience and spirit of our communities. As we push through this hard time, let us remember to look out for our fellow residents.
Stay tuned for more in-depth reports and keep safe as Debby continues her journey up coast.
