North Myrtle Beach Set for Exciting Changes at Possum Trot Golf Course

In the heart of North Myrtle Beach, there’s an exciting buzz surrounding the future of the beloved Possum Trot Golf Course. This “Friendly Course” at 1180 Possum Trot Road is gearing up to be developed and annexed into the city, creating waves of anticipation among local golfers and visitors alike.

What Makes Possum Trot a Must-Play?

First off, let’s talk about the course itself. Known for its generous fairways, Possum Trot spans a healthy 6,966 yards with a traditional par 72 layout, making it a welcoming challenge for golfers at all skill levels. Big hitters will feel right at home here, as most of the par 5 holes are not just reachable but practically begging for powerful drives! If you’ve got the swing, you’ll love the 500-yard par 5 10th hole and the other par 5s that tempt you to go for the green in two.

Strategize Your Way to a Birdie

Alright, but let’s not kid ourselves—there’s always a catch! While the fairways might be wide enough to bring a smile, the greens will test your skills with their diminutive size—think postage stamp. You’ll need some serious precision if you want to snag a birdie. And let’s not forget about the length of some holes! The striking pink of that 535-yard par 5 18th demands a bit more focus, especially with a large pond lurking and eyeing your small green.

Scoring Challenges Await

Now, if you’re looking for some thigh-gripping action, check out the infamous 460-yard par 4 11th hole, affectionately nicknamed “Pig Possum.” Sure, the fairway is wide, but that pesky wind from the nearby ocean can wreak havoc on your game. Chances are, if you managed a birdie on that friendly par 5 10th, the 11th might just be your undoing.

Play with a Touch of Nostalgia

For those who’ve been following the golf scene here, Possum Trot has a special place in many hearts. Originally designed in 1968, it offers a classic, no-frills golfing experience reminiscent of older courses. You won’t find flashy clubhouses or chaotic double fairways here. Its inviting vibe is a throwback to simpler times, perfect for both seasoned players and newcomers.

Facilities Worth Mentioning

The course boasts one of the larger practice facilities in the area. With ample chipping areas and a practice bunker to help fine-tune your game, you’re all set for a day on the greens. Although the beverage cart may have been taking a winter break during my review, the snack bar was open, offering reasonably priced food and drinks—a perfect way to refresh after a thrilling round.

Accessing the Course

Getting to Possum Trot is a breeze. Just hop on U.S. 17 North into North Myrtle Beach and take a left onto Possum Trot Road. The course is nestled conveniently close to other hot spots like Overtime Sports Café, making it a pivotal stop for anyone exploring the area.

The Future of Possum Trot

As Possum Trot faces its upcoming development and annexation, everyone is eager to see how it transforms while maintaining the charm it’s known for. And for you golfers out there, this is definitely a course to keep on your radar! Whether you’re planning to tee off this year or down the road, get ready for what Possum Trot has in store. It’s more than just a game; it’s about making unforgettable memories under the Myrtle Beach sun!
