MYRTLE BEACH, SC – The fate of Avery Moore, the suspended principal of PALM Charter High School, is still undecided. Moore has been on administrative leave since May due to allegations of off-site misconduct.
The school board convened for a three-hour long administrative meeting, described as a “personnel matters” discussion. No final decisions regarding Moore’s situation were made at this meeting. Despite this, Moore expressed his intention to renew his contract with the school and is hopeful for encouraging news in the near term.
Some parents who have objected to Moore’s suspension may be placated by the possibility of his reinstatement. These parents have pickedeted against the school board, accusing them of a lack of transparency regarding the reasons for the principal’s suspension. Their concerns have only been exacerbated by online rumors and lack of information.
A parent, speaking to the board, expressed their dissatisfaction: “The only reason the parents got upset and started the back-and-forth commentary and the rumors that were on social media is because they weren’t getting any answers from you guys. Their children were involved, so, in my opinion, what brought this on was the handling of the situation by the board.”
The future of Moore’s position remains uncertain. However, it is expected that additional information may be disclosed at a special school board meeting slated for next week.
