Golf fans, mark your calendars because October 2024 is shaping up to be a thrilling month for golf enthusiasts in Thailand! The Black Mountain Championship and the International Series Thailand are set to take place back-to-back, bringing a festival of golfing excellence to the beautiful landscapes of the region.
First up, from October 17-20, 2024, the stunning Black Mountain Golf Club will host the inaugural Black Mountain Championship. This event marks a significant addition to the golf calendar as it will be the first time this championship is held at this iconic venue. The Black Mountain Golf Club is not new to hosting world-class tournaments since it has delivered seven memorable events since 2009, including the previous two International Series Thailand tournaments. It’s set to be an exciting debut for the championship, with a total purse of US$2 million up for grabs!
Following right after, from October 24-27, 2024, the famed Thai Country Club will take over the spotlight with the International Series Thailand. This prestigious venue has a rich history, having hosted numerous Asian Tour events, including the highly regarded 1997 Asian Honda Classic and the Thailand Open. With its amazing facilities and beautiful fairways, players and spectators alike can expect a truly remarkable experience.
These two tournaments will count as the fifth and sixth legs of the International Series, which features ten premier tournaments on the esteemed Asian Tour. With both tournaments contributing to the overall prize fund of US$23.5 million for the 2024 season, it’s sure to make competitive spirits soar. Each tournament will reward participants with valuable ranking points and a grand prize pool of US$15.5 million during the final stretch of the season with six tournaments lined up over eight weeks.
Speaking of competition, let’s not forget about last year’s champion! Wade Ormsby comes into the International Series Thailand as the defending champion, having clinched victory in a nail-biting sudden-death play-off in 2023. The inaugural event last year was won by Sihwan Kim, who dazzled everyone with a remarkable final round score of 63.
But wait, there’s more! The excitement of golf doesn’t end in October. The season’s final three-week stretch begins with the Indonesian Masters from October 31-November 3 followed by the Hong Kong Open on November 21-24. The grand finale of the 2024 season will feature the International Series Qatar and the PIF Saudi International, where winners of the International Series Rankings and the Asian Tour Order of Merit will be announced, granting the top-ranking player automatic entry into the LIV Golf League for the 2025 season.
Lastly, on December 20, 2024, the Thai Golf Foundation has big plans to honor the King with a special tournament at 89 member golf courses nationwide. This event will mark significant anniversaries, celebrating both the 120th birthday of Queen Rambhai Barni and the 100th anniversary of Thai golf. Golf lovers can expect collaborations with six associations focusing on promoting and developing the game across the country.
So, get ready for a fantastic October filled with golf excitement and community spirit. Whether you’re a player or a fan, these two events bring something special to the greens!
