NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC – In a rather bizarre series of events, North Myrtle Beach saw a 27-year-old local man, Gerzon Lainez, stirring up quite a bit of trouble this past weekend. Just when you think you’ve heard it all, this incident reminds us that there’s always something new happening on the roads!
Lainez is currently facing a slew of charges after allegedly leading law enforcement on a chaotic chase while reportedly being “appreciably impaired.” The man found himself in hot water with the law after experiencing trouble behind the wheel on Highway 17, a frequently traveled road that connects many beach-goers to their exciting destinations.
It all started when an officer noticed Lainez’s vehicle swerving dangerously. The car was drifting to the right and even made contact with a curb multiple times. Right then, it became clear that something was off! The situation escalated when Lainez hit a traffic cone, prompting the police officer to take action. What could have been a routine stop quickly turned into a tense moment for both police and Lainez.
As the officer approached, things took an even stranger turn. Lainez refused to put his vehicle in park, forcing the officer to instruct him to roll down his window instead! As the officer got closer, a strong smell of alcohol wafted from the car, and Lainez’s bloodshot, glossy eyes confirmed the officer’s suspicions. Despite the clear indicators, Lainez had other plans.
Ignoring the police signals, Lainez reportedly fled southbound on Highway 17, kicking off a wild police pursuit that highlighted just how chaotic things can get when someone refuses to acknowledge the law. The chase ended on a dirt road near the North Myrtle Beach airport, where Lainez finally stopped his vehicle. But that’s not where the madness ended. In an effort to escape, Lainez decided to run from the scene!
However, his escape attempt didn’t last long. Law enforcement officials were quick on their feet and apprehended him after using a Taser. Let’s be real—it probably was quite the sight to see! Once caught, Lainez was taken into custody without any further disturbances. He was promptly transported to North Strand ER, likely for evaluation, and then booked at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center early on Sunday morning.
The saga didn’t end there. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that Lainez’s driver’s license had already been suspended, and this incident marked his third offense, putting him in the category of a “habitual traffic offender.” It’s alarming to see individuals returning to risky behavior on the roads, especially with so many lives at stake.
With the rise in such incidents, it’s a reminder for all drivers to keep their wits about them, especially when it comes to drinking and driving. Public safety must always be a priority, and incidents like these highlight the need for responsible behavior while behind the wheel.
As of now, Lainez’s legal journey continues, but one thing is for sure, this chase in North Myrtle Beach will be part of local lore for quite some time! It’s always important to stay safe out there and remember the roads belong to everyone.
