Important News from Myrtle Beach: Help Shape Our New Superintendent!

MYRTLE BEACH — Big things are happening in our local school district! Horry County Schools is currently on the lookout for a new superintendent, and guess what? They want YOU to help make that choice!

The Horry County Board of Education has officially launched an online survey for parents and members of the community, and it’s open throughout the month of September. It’s a golden opportunity for everyone to weigh in on what characteristics and qualities they’d like to see in our next school leader. With schools being the heart of our community, this is a chance to ensure we get someone who truly understands what makes our students and families special.

What’s This All About?

So why the big search, you ask? The journey for a new superintendent started earlier this year after former Superintendent Rick Maxey decided to hang up his hat early, retiring effective June 30. While it’s always tough to say goodbye to someone who’s given so much to our schools, the Board of Education has already appointed Eddie Ingram as the interim superintendent to keep things running smoothly during this transition.

They Want Your Input!

The Horry County Schools district is really eager to find a leader that the community feels good about. In their own words, “An essential step in the process is to identify the characteristics the board will be looking for in the new superintendent.” This is where the survey comes into play! It’s designed to gather opinions from those who know our schools best — the parents and local stakeholders.

On top of the survey, there will be several meetings taking place at various schools across the district on September 24-26. These casual meetings will provide a great chance for folks to meet with consultants from BWP & Associates, the firm brought on to aid this search. All community members are invited to come chat about what they’d like to see in a new superintendent.

Meeting Details

Here are the specifics for the meetings, so you can mark your calendars:

  • Tuesday, September 24, at 6 PM: Locations will be provided on the school district’s website.
  • Wednesday, September 25, at 6 PM: Locations will also be provided on the website.
  • Thursday, September 26, at 6 PM: More locations will be shared soon.

Make sure to join in and bring your ideas to the table because it’s your perspectives that matter most in this decision!

How to Make Your Voice Heard

If you can’t make it to the meetings but still want to share your thoughts, don’t worry! The online survey is available through the district’s website and will remain open to the public until September 30. Just hop online, fill it out, and let your opinions be heard.

Getting the next superintendent is so crucial for Horry County Schools and all our students. With your help, we can find someone who is not only qualified but also embodies the values and spirit of our wonderful community.

Let’s work together to shape the future of education for our kids in Myrtle Beach! Every voice matters in this process, so let’s make it count!

Stay tuned for more updates and happy surveying, Myrtle Beach!
