A Month Full of Exciting Events and Exhibitions

Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, is offering a wide range of programs and events in March, ensuring a rich, diverse, and exciting experience for visitors of all ages. The highlight of the month-long series, scheduled for March 12, 2024, is the event, “Nature’s Nasties,” led by Ranger Ann Wilson.

About Nature’s Nasties

Ranger Ann Wilson from Myrtle Beach State Park will host Nature’s Nasties, a program designed to promote safety during outdoor activities. She will uncover myths and dangers associated with poison ivy, jellyfish, stingrays, snakes, sharks, and other potential hazards commonly found in woodland and beach areas. Guests can learn how to identify these dangers and understand the best ways to avoid them while still enjoying outdoor pursuits.

Additional Events and Exhibitions

Besides Nature’s Nasties, Brookgreen Gardens has lined up numerous other events through March. To kickstart the month, an Art Deco exhibition will continue until April 21, inviting guests to immerse themselves in the iconic 1920s and 1930s design movement. Live exhibits, artifacts, and art pieces will enable visitors to experience the elegance, sophistication, and glamour of the Art Deco era.

Events continue with a special session of “Define ‘Public’ Art with Jarod Charzewski”. On March 5, participants will join the artist and College of Charleston Professor Jarod Charzewski for an insightful discussion about the evolution of art production over the past two decades. The discussion will include topics ranging from conceptualization to installation and from materials to fabrication.

Another surprising event in the line-up is the artist talk with Lauren Sloan on March 22. Guests will explore Sloan’s art, emphasizing the connection between African Americans and their land. Sloan’s work uses mixed media to combine landscapes, poems, photographs, and plants, offering a compelling visual journey.

Diverse Programming for All Interests

The programming is not restricted to art or nature talks. The Whispering Wings Butterfly House will prepare for the 2024 season with a special tour guided by Horticulturist Kaela Miller. Meanwhile, a new perspective on the rice culture lived and passed down by Gullah Geechee people will be presented in the interactive cultural game show, “Nottin bot de Rice!”. These programs, among others, will ensure a diverse and engaging month for all visitors to Brookgreen Gardens.

Anticipation for Upcoming Events

As March approaches, enthusiasts eagerly await the programming on offer at Brookgreen Gardens. These events provide an opportunity to both enjoy and learn from the natural and cultural richness of the region. With Ranger Ann Wilson’s session, visitors will gain knowledge about the potential dangers posed by wildlife, enabling them to fully enjoy their outdoor activities.
