Sponsor Our ArticlesAs winter weather approaches Myrtle Beach, local school districts are implementing various measures to ensure student safety. While some schools will experience normal schedules, others have planned early dismissals or e-learning days. The community is being urged to stay informed about tropical storm warnings due to Hurricane Helene, which brings the risk of flooding, gusty winds, and potential tornadoes. Residents are advised to prepare for the incoming weather and ensure safety during this chilly season.
As the chilly winds begin to howl and the skies look a bit gray, it appears local school districts in Myrtle Beach are gearing up for a wave of winter weather. Oh yes, the season is officially knocking at our doors, and it looks like it’s bringing along a serious chill.
Starting with Horry Georgetown Technical College, students can breathe a sigh of relief as classes will run as usual on Tuesday. However, the college will be closing its doors at 4 p.m. and transitioning to online and virtual instruction come Wednesday. For everyone involved, this means no on-campus shenanigans for faculty, staff, or students after the clock strikes four.
If you have kids in the Darlington County School District, be prepared for an early dismissal. The district has announced that students will head home earlier on Tuesday, and all after-school activities will take a backseat. Some schools, like Pate Elementary, Southside Early Childhood Center, and the Darlington County Intervention School, will have even more adjusted schedules with special needs students being released a tad earlier. Lovely, right?
On the other hand, families in the Georgetown County School District will experience a half-day on Tuesday, with dedicated dismissal times to help families plan ahead. Just like their counterparts, all after-school activities—including athletic events—are being postponed or canceled. The district’s decision for Wednesday will be revealed later on Tuesday, so keep your eyes peeled!
Moving on to the Marion County School District, students can expect a normal day on Tuesday, though all after-school activities have been scrapped. It seems like everyone is being super cautious as we brace for the winter weather.
Meanwhile, Florence School District Three students will enjoy a two-hour delay on Tuesday, allowing them to snuggle in a bit longer before heading to class. Staff members, however, are expected to be on their usual schedules. And guess what? All after-school events for Tuesday are off, and schools will be closed on Wednesday, with a makeup day still to be determined. Talk about planning ahead!
With all this school talk, let’s also consider the weather. Residents in the Myrtle Beach area find themselves under a tropical storm warning due to concerns from Hurricane Helene. Brace yourselves for potential gusty winds, heavy rain, risk of flooding, and those unexpected tornadoes that seem to pop up in these storms. North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach, and Surfside Beach are particularly on alert, making it vital for everyone to stay informed and safe.
As for Horry County Schools, they’re not taking any chances with student safety. An e-learning day has been scheduled for Friday, with all extracurricular activities for that day being postponed as well. Safety first, right?
All in all, it looks like Myrtle Beach and the surrounding areas are bracing themselves for winter weather with proactive measures from local schools and communities. So, whether you’re making adjustments to your daily routines, planning for early pick-ups, or checking in with the weather updates, stay warm, stay safe, and don’t forget to make some hot cocoa!
