Unsettled Morning Gives Way to a Warm Weekend in Myrtle Beach

The coastal city of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, welcomed residents and tourists with clear skies as a pleasant change this Sunday morning. The typical cloudy start that residents have been experiencing since mid-week has been replaced, with sunshine gradually building throughout the day. This change has been a delightful surprise for those dwelling and visiting along the coast.

Weather and Temperature

Today’s forecast reveals that local temperatures will reach their peak in the low to potentially mid 80s along the coast. Inland temperatures, on the other hand, are expected to touch the upper 80s. Weather conditions also indicate a minimal possibility of a brief afternoon shower along the Grand Strand into Georgetown County, with less than a 20-30% chance.

Into the Week

As the city gears up for the new school and work week, both temperatures and humidity levels are set to rise. A high-pressure wave from the west is set to impact the atmosphere, making it difficult for cloud formation and greater chances of shower activity. This phenomenon, however, is predicted to last only until mid to late in the week across the Pee Dee and Coastal areas.

The Heat Wave

A significant heat wave over the mid-south is expected as expansive high pressure from the west approaches. Myrtle Beach, lying on the eastern side of this pressure, is expected to experience climbing temperatures along with humidity. Thankfully, predictions indicate temperatures should stay under the triple digits. Sunny weather is expected to stay consistent through the late week leading into the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Looking Forward

Early forecasts for the Cookout Southern 500 at Darlington Speedway indicate hot and humid weather with minimal rain chances. The circumstances, however, might change over the next few days, warranting regular weather updates.

Peak of Hurricane Season

With the diversion of the current high-pressure system providing the area with pleasant weather, residents are warned that we are entering the last week of August, ending in the peak of the Hurricane season. September may herald an uptick in tropical activity across the Atlantic basin, and therefore, it is advised to keep an eye on the weather forecasts during this period.
