Myrtle Beach Weather Update: Mild Times Ahead Despite Wildfire Concerns
Hey, Myrtle Beach! If you’re looking for some weather updates to plan your week, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve got some interesting shifts in the weather, along with an important heads-up regarding wildfires in our backyard.
Goodbye, Showers; Hello, Mild Weather
First things first, the isolated showers that have been hovering over Myrtle Beach will finally be winding down overnight. After that, we can look forward to a lovely stretch of mild and dry weather that’s set to hang out with us through the week. Tonight, expect mostly cloudy skies with a slight chance of a brief rain or sprinkle before midnight. Temperatures are going to take a slight dip as a cold front pushes through, with overnight lows dropping to the upper 40s inland and down to the lower 50s along our beautiful beaches.
Sunshine on the Horizon
Get ready to soak up that sunshine! Tuesday is shaping up to be a glorious day. With dry air moving in, we can anticipate gusty winds but plenty of warm sunshine. Afternoon temperatures should reach into the middle 60s for inland areas, while those lucky enough to be at the beach can enjoy highs peeking near the 70-degree mark. However, don’t put away those jackets just yet! A second cold front will sweep in Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, assuring us that cooler air returns.
What’s Ahead Mid-Week
As we hit the middle of the week, we’ll feel that cool air settle in with temperatures falling back to the 60s and flirting with the 70s during the day. Nights will be on the cooler side too, dipping into the 40s, so make sure to grab a cozy blanket if you’re planning to sit outside. But fear not, as warmer weather is just around the corner! As we head towards the weekend, temperatures are expected to climb back into the 70s right along the Grand Strand. Our inland friends could even see those numbers inching towards the 80s!
Wind and Wildfire Woes
Now, let’s discuss something a bit more serious. The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for Myrtle Beach and surrounding areas due to some tumultuous winds post-cold front, with sustained gusts ranging anywhere from 15 to 25 mph, and even up to 30 to 40 mph in some areas. As nighttime rolls in, wind speeds are expected to calm to about 10 to 15 mph with occasional gusts around 25 mph. So, if you’re in a high-profile vehicle, make sure to stay alert, especially when navigating bridges and overpasses.
In addition to wind concerns, there are several wildfires breaking out from the East Coast, stretching from the Delmarva Peninsula down to Georgia, causing havoc and forcing evacuations in various areas. Here in South Carolina, significant wildfires are burning in Horry County and other regions, leading the South Carolina National Guard to step in with aerial water drops to help tackle the flames.
A State of Emergency and Safety Measures
South Carolina’s Governor has declared a state of emergency due to the dire wildfire situation. An air quality alert has also been issued in Horry County because of fine particulates from wildfire smoke. Residents, especially those with respiratory concerns, should limit their time outdoors and avoid smoke exposure where possible.
Evacuations have already taken place in the Carolina Forest area, and if you’re around, be mindful of your safety. Community support is vital right now, as local centers like the Carolina Forest Recreation Center are acting as safe havens for those displaced by the flames.
While the Blackthorn Drive Fire has thankfully been contained, the Covington Drive Fire is still roaring at 30% containment, and another fire near Myrtle Beach has spread across a staggering 1,600 acres. As of now, we’re fortunate that there have been no injuries or destroyed homes reported, but let’s all stay vigilant and ready to assist our neighbors in need.
Stay safe, Myrtle Beach, and enjoy this mild weather while being mindful of the wildfires. We’re all in this together!
