Myrtle Beach Welcomes the 47th Annual National Exhibition of the South Carolina Watermedia Society

This fall, Myrtle Beach is all set to showcase a spectacular collection of art at the Franklin G Burroughs-Simeon B Chapin Art Museum. The highly anticipated 47th Annual National Exhibition of the South Carolina Watermedia Society kicks off on October 3 and will run through December 29.

Opening Reception Details

Mark your calendars! There’s an exciting opening reception on the same day, October 3, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.. This event will be the perfect chance to enjoy some refreshments while getting an exclusive first look at the incredible array of artworks. The evening will fall into place nicely as awards are announced, highlighting what promises to be a competitive show filled with talent.

A Dash of Competition

This year’s exhibition showcases nearly 180 entries, making it one of the most competitive shows the society has seen in years! Renowned juror Ken Call has curated a stunning selection of 58 pieces, featuring artists hailing from both coasts. You’ll find artwork from talented folks not just right here in South Carolina, but also from nearby states like Georgia and North Carolina.

Artworks to Explore

With an eclectic mix ranging from abstract to stark realism, you can expect to see the full breath of wider media explored at this year’s exhibition. Whether you’re an art aficionado or simply someone who appreciates art, there’s something for everyone!

Celebrating History at the Historic Villa

The Springmaid Villa, which is celebrating its 100th birthday this year, serves as a beautiful home for the museum. The villa itself is steeped in history and provides a stunning backdrop for this impressive collection of artworks. According to Victoria Alger, President of the South Carolina Watermedia Society, “We are very proud to showcase the most elite artists” during this event. That’s quite fitting given the rich artistic heritage embedded in this venue!
