Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, hosted a distinguished Charity Gala on Saturday in the grand ballroom at the Sheraton Hotel aimed at fundraising for the Shields and Stripes program. This program is designed to provide a multifaceted therapeutic support network for veterans, first responders, and their families.
“It’s just simple common sense,” stated Jennifer Byrne and Steve Nisbet, co-founders of Shields and Stripes, “when we are asking our veterans and first responders to protect us, they deserve nothing but the best. The integration of physical therapists, mental health clinicians, occupational therapists and dieticians, all working together in favor of the individual is holistic treatment.”
The gala also honored local firefighter, Michael Rapp, a person who has exhibited incredible bravery and dedicated service to the Myrtle Beach community. This heroic individual’s commitment goes to show that the spirit of community prevails in Myrtle Beach.
Since its inception in 2021, Shields and Stripes has raised an impressive sum of over $900,000. These funds have already transformed the lives of 42 veterans and first responders and assisted hundreds of their family members in significant ways. The gala held this weekend aimed to substantially increase the funding available to Shields and Stripes in order to increase the support provided to these deserving families.
The success of this charity gala was a testament to the collective spirit of supporting and giving back to those who protect us daily. Veterans, first responders, and their families deserve the best possible support available, and community initiatives like this gala play an integral part in making this possible. The Shields and Stripes program represents a firm commitment towards ensuring these heroes have access to the care and support they need to lead fulfilling lives.
