Myrtle Beach Sees Increase in Traffic Over Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day weekend in Myrtle Beach saw a significant increase in driver activity this year compared to the previous one, according to reports from the local police department. This trend is in line with predictions for a record-breaking holiday season nationwide for travel. An estimated 38.4 million Americans were projected to travel during the holiday, with Myrtle Beach ranking among the top favorite spots for domestic travel.

Travel Trends and Safety Measures

The Myrtle Beach Police Department observed high numbers of people taking advantage of the good weather conditions and hitting the roads. “Like any Memorial Day weekend, we did see a lot of travel numbers. This year we had some great weather. It didn’t rain so there were a lot more motorists on our roadways which is awesome. We did see a lot of safe driving; we didn’t have too many collisions. So I think people planned ahead,” stated Officer Drew Longshore.

Tips for Travelers

The significant travel influx was not unobserved by both residents and visitors of the Grand Strand. In light of the burgeoning traffic, locals offered some meaningful advice to people planning their return trips after the holiday. Eddie Wolfe, a visitor from Charlotte, advised, “Pack your patience. Leave early. Make sure you don’t go when it’s stormy or bad weather. Just wait it out if you can. You don’t wanna leave around 11 or 12 o’clock, right after checkout. That’s a big no-no.

Air Travel Projections

In addition to road travel, experts had been forecasting a surge in air travel over the holiday weekend as well. However, Myrtle Beach airport is yet to release the exact figures of passenger numbers over the Memorial Day Weekend.

With the Memorial Day weekend concluded, all eyes will now be on the subsequent summer travel trends and how the city’s infrastructure adapts to the expected uptick in visitors.
