Myrtle Beach community in Shock as 15 Shots Fired into Local Home

By HERE News

Residents of a typically peaceful Myrtle Beach neighborhood are living in fear and disarray following a terrifying shooting event over the weekend. An otherwise serene community was thrown into a state of shock when 15 bullets were fired into a local residence and a nearby business.

Victims Take Refuge with Relatives

The occupants of the house targeted during Saturday’s shooting are presently residing with family members, too frightened to remain in their own home. According to the property manager, the victims are elderly, ranging between the ages of 60 and 80. Despite the refusal of the property manager to hold an on-camera interview, they have maintained that the victims are excellent tenants who are not known to have any enemies.

Shooter Detained as Investigation Continues

Myrtle Beach law enforcement are still probing into the attack, following the apprehension of alleged 29-year-old assailant, Jacob Mechling. The suspected shooter purportedly fired these shots into the residence, which is located on the 400 Block of 7th Avenue North. According to police, Mechling was found in the rear vicinity of the house and was subsequently apprehended promptly.

An accompanying investigation revealed that 15 bullet rounds had penetrated the walls of the house, as well as a nearby motel. At this stage, it remains unclear whether Mechling had any known connection with the victims, or whether they were the intended targets of this seemingly arbitrary act of violence.

Local Resident shares Account

Luis Toledo, a local resident who has been living in a unit at the front of the double property for the past year, expressed that he had never encountered Mechling prior to the attack. Toledo, who happened to be at home with his spouse at the time of the incident, voiced sheer relief that no one was hurt during the onslaught.

The female victim shared her terrifying ordeal with the authorities, recounting that she was in her room when the gunfire erupted, with bullets penetrating her wall. She further stated that she could not remember the precise number of shots fired and even recalled experiencing pieces of the wall falling onto her shoulder.

Charges and Legal Proceedings

Mechling now confronts multiple charges. These include four counts related to discharging a firearm into a dwelling. He is currently being incarcerated at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center with his bond set at over $100,000. The residents of Myrtle Beach are eagerly awaiting further developments in this alarming incident that has rocked their community’s tranquility.
