Hey Myrtle Beach residents! Exciting news is rolling in for our local education scene! Horry County Schools, which proudly boasts an enrollment of over 48,000 students (can you believe that?), is making some big moves. They’re gearing up to open two brand-new elementary schools in the rapidly growing Carolina Forest area come the 2025-26 school year!
So, you might be wondering where these new schools will be nestled. One is set to pop up at the corner of Ronald McNair Boulevard and Christa McAuliffe Street, while the other will take its place on Carolina Forest Boulevard and Stafford Drive. Mark your calendars for August 2025, folks, because that’s when the doors swing open for eager little learners!
Now, while this sounds fantastic, it does come with some changes to the attendance lines. But don’t you worry! Attendance lines for Palmetto Bays Elementary and Waccamaw Elementary will stay the same. However, students at Carolina Forest Elementary, Ocean Bay Elementary, and River Oaks Elementary will see some adjustments. If you’re a parent or guardian in these areas, it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on the updates!
For those of you who like to stay in the loop, Horry County Schools has launched a special page on their website just for this occasion. You can view interactive attendance maps for the new schools and even offer your own feedback and thoughts on the changes. It’s a great way to make your voice heard about anything concerning the new schools and their impact on your kiddos.
Let’s talk money for a second. The school being built on Ronald McNair Boulevard has a mouthwatering budget of $65,696,431, while the one on Carolina Forest Boulevard comes in at $62,303,569. With both schools designed to serve 1,200 students each, you can bet that Horry County is serious about providing top-notch education!
The excitement doesn’t stop here. A formal approval plan by the Horry County Board of Education is set to be submitted later this month in mid-November. So, let’s all keep our fingers crossed that everything gets the green light for these wonderful additions to our community!
In summary, Myrtle Beach, gear up for some positive changes in our local education landscape!
