In the early hours of Friday, around 2 a.m., our beautiful Myrtle Beach was shaken by an incident that you wouldn’t expect to hear on a typical night out. The peaceful vibe took a twist when a man was accused of trying to rob someone at gunpoint near a bus stop on 21st Avenue North.
According to the Myrtle Beach police, the situation unfolded when a victim found himself facing a 45-year-old man named Travis Grant. Reports indicate that Grant allegedly attempted to rob him while wielding a gun. Things escalated quickly, and unfortunately, the victim reported that Grant even hit him in the back of the head with the weapon!
As you might guess, the police jumped into action. Officers made their way to the bus stop at 1200 21st Avenue North, where the armed robbery took place. They sprang into action, gathering as much information as possible to resolve the situation quickly.
Here’s where it gets interesting: after a thorough investigation and hunt for Grant, the police discovered him hiding out in a most unexpected place—a dumpster! Yes, you heard that right! The officers found him taking a break from reality while buried amongst the trash. This is definitely not how one wants to avoid the long arm of the law!
During the questioning, Grant confessed that he “ran up behind the victim.” However, he insisted that he didn’t hurt the victim. According to his take on events, they simply had a couple of exchanges, and he claimed he eventually walked away following their encounter. However, considering the police report, things seemed a bit different for the victim.
Now, it’s not looking good for Mr. Grant. He was arrested for several serious charges, including armed robbery and possessing a weapon during a violent crime. So, you can imagine that he won’t be dumpster diving for long, as he is currently booked at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center until further notice.
This incident serves as a reminder for all of us staying here at the coast. It’s always a good idea to stay aware of your surroundings, even in familiar places. The Myrtle Beach community is usually a safe and welcoming environment, but we can’t forget that crime can happen anywhere.
While it’s all too easy to brush this off as a nothing story, it’s crucial for us to remain alert and to look out for each other. We love our town and cherish the memories we build here. If you witness anything suspicious or feel unsafe, don’t hesitate to reach out to the local police.
