Myrtle Beach Says Goodbye to Captain D’s as Beloved Seafood Spot Closes Its Doors

Myrtle Beach Bids Farewell to Captain D’s

The streets of Myrtle Beach have always been bustling with life, vibrant with the smells of saltwater and fried seafood. But just recently, a familiar spot has departed from the scene, leaving many locals scratching their heads in disbelief. That’s right, the beloved fast-food seafood joint, Captain D’s, has officially closed its doors, marking the end of an era for seafood lovers in the area.

From Fresh Fish to Empty Doors

The Captain D’s location, nestled right near the heart of Myrtle Beach on Kings Highway, has long been a go-to for residents and tourists craving some crispy fried fish, shrimp, and maybe a good ol’ breaded catfish sandwich. But as of August 23, 2024, the neon lights have dimmed, and a silence has settled over the once-busy restaurant. The signs have been removed from the doors, and a posted menu that used to draw people in is now a distant memory.

It feels strange driving by the spot, doesn’t it? The absence of that familiar place is noticeable, and many of us have shared countless meals around those tables. What made it even harder to digest is that company spokeswoman Tracy Paul has given little insight into why it closed up shop. All that’s known is that for 31 states and 535 locations, Myrtle Beach no longer has the signature taste of Captain D’s to offer.

A Bit of History

If you didn’t know, Captain D’s first opened its doors in 1969 in Donelson, Tennessee. It was one of those small ideas that skyrocketed into a popular fish and chips haven. Just four years later, they had expanded to 15 locations, and they’ve been swimming strong ever since. Their growth eventually led them to Nashville, where they still operate today, feeding seafood lovers across the country.

For all of us in Horry County, this closing definitely comes as a surprise. It’s particularly striking to see a place that once thrived suddenly become vacant. There’s no indication on the building of what’s next in store for that real estate. Will another restaurant breeze in and take over, or will it be sitting empty for a while? The suspense is killing us!

What’s Next for the Location?

As of now, all we know is that the building is owned by Academy Investors and managed by KE Andrews, who is listed out of Rockwall, Texas. When reached for comment, KE Andrews didn’t immediately respond, leaving many of us wondering what the future holds for that prime piece of real estate right in the middle of our beloved Myrtle Beach.

Whether it’s a new seafood spot, a trendy cafe, or something completely different, it’s hard not to feel a little nostalgic for the Captain D’s that once was. It served as a casual dining option where families could enjoy a quick meal after a day at the beach or after a night out on the strip.

Final Thoughts

As Myrtle Beach continues to evolve, it’s essential to acknowledge the establishments that shaped our local dining scene. Captain D’s was a beloved fast seafood option for many years and will surely be missed. We invite folks to reminisce about their favorite meals and moments spent there while we wait to see what will fill the space next.

So, Myrtle Beach, what do you think? Any predictions on what will replace Captain D’s? Let’s keep the discussions rolling as we navigate the ever-changing landscape of our local culinary scene!
