MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Prince Bowens, a respected and much-loved stalwart of the Myrtle Beach restaurant scene, has passed away at 74. The former owner of “Princes Place” was a well-known figure in the Booker T. Long-time patrons of the restaurant remember Bowens for his culinary skills as well as his warm and hospitable nature.
A testament to his lasting influence on the local food industry, Councilman Mike Chestnut credits Bowens as the source of inspiration behind his own successful restaurant, Big Mikes Soul Food. While Princes Place may have closed over a decade ago, the impact of its existence remains alive in the hearts and plates of Myrtle Beach residents.
Tributes to the culinary icon have been pouring in since the news of his death. Bowens’ will be remembered, celebrated, and mourned at a visitation scheduled for this Friday at the Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow on Saturday at 11 a.m.
