Beloved Myrtle Beach Restaurant Owner Passes Away

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Prince Bowens, a respected and much-loved stalwart of the Myrtle Beach restaurant scene, has passed away at 74. The former owner of “Princes Place” was a well-known figure in the Booker T. Washington neighborhood, operating the popular establishment for several decades before it closed its doors in the early 2000s.

Legacy of Princes Place

Bowens inherited the restaurant from his mother, Frances, who originally found fame with Princes Place in the 1940s. The eatery quickly became a household name along the Grand Strand. Long-time patrons of the restaurant remember Bowens for his culinary skills as well as his warm and hospitable nature.

Influence on the Culinary Scene

A testament to his lasting influence on the local food industry, Councilman Mike Chestnut credits Bowens as the source of inspiration behind his own successful restaurant, Big Mikes Soul Food. While Princes Place may have closed over a decade ago, the impact of its existence remains alive in the hearts and plates of Myrtle Beach residents.

Tributes and Funeral Arrangements

Tributes to the culinary icon have been pouring in since the news of his death. Bowens’ will be remembered, celebrated, and mourned at a visitation scheduled for this Friday at the Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Prince Bowens is survived by his family and a proud lineage of local restaurant owners, chefs, and food enthusiasts who were inspired by his commitment to quality soul food and community spirit. His memory continues to live on in the legacy he left in the Myrtle Beach food industry.

His death represents a significant loss for the community, as well as the local culinary scene.
