Hey there, Myrtle Beach! If you love dining out, you might want to keep your eyes peeled for some recent news about our local restaurants. The South Carolina Department of Agriculture (SCDA) recently conducted inspections in Horry and Georgetown counties, and let’s just say, some establishments didn’t score too well on their report cards.
Between November 9 and November 15, a total of 147 restaurant inspections were completed. Out of these findings, six restaurants got B grades, and two restaurants walked away with a not-so-great C grade. In the grand scale of things, scores range from 88 to 100 points as an A, while anything below 77 points lands in the C territory. With health violations, it can be tricky, though, since some restaurants had grades lowered due to consecutive issues, health hazards, or even permit complications.
Now, let’s dive into the specific restaurants that raised a few eyebrows during these inspections. Grab your forks; here comes the juicy stuff!
Location: 4254 Socastee Blvd., Myrtle Beach, SC 29588
Score: 75
During a routine check on November 12, inspectors discovered quite the unsettling scene at La Olanchana. The report revealed live roaches and spiders enjoying a feast among the food items! To make matters worse, the ready-to-eat cooked beef was more than a week old. Yikes! Other violations included food stored improperly, dirty utensils masquerading as clean, and a kitchen that looked like it hadn’t seen a broom in ages. Get this: they even found hefty cobwebs in there! A follow-up inspection is on the calendar for November 22. Fingers crossed!
Location: 2000 Highway 501 E., Conway, SC 29526
Score: 81
On November 13, guests at 810 Conway might’ve been in for a few unwelcome surprises. Mold and mildew were spotted lurking in the ice machine, and several items like ham and turkey had miraculously outlasted their discard dates. Staff seemed to have a habit of using cups without handles to scoop food – that’s just asking for a mess! Inspectors also noted problems like standing water in the bar drain. No follow-up report has yet surfaced, but another inspection is scheduled before November 22.
Location: 10600 N. Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach, SC 29572
Score: 81
On November 15, Four Seasons Restaurant faced a wave of health violations. With dead bugs hiding under shelving and some items not being kept at the right temperatures, the inspection notes suggested the staff need a refresher on food safety. One employee was seen handling bread with bare hands – definitely not cool in the culinary world! Watch out for the follow-up inspection on November 25!
Location: 1610-B Church St., Conway 29526
Score: 82
Last but not least, Don’s Deli had its inspection on November 12, where dirty slicers were the talk of the report. With cheesecake not being kept cold enough and deli meats lacking proper date labels, food safety seems to be a pressing issue. Just like the others, they’re also gearing up for a follow-up inspection soon!
So there you have it, Myrtle Beach! While dining out is a magical experience, knowing which places to avoid can help ensure you and your loved ones stay safe and healthy. Be sure to check back for updates following the upcoming inspections, and remember to always stay curious about your favorite local eateries!
