Sponsor Our ArticlesIn a little twist that’s buzzing around our beautiful coastline, the iconic Sandcastle Oceanfront Resort at the Pavilion in Myrtle Beach has been making waves! If you’ve ever tried to look up the resort online, you might have noticed that it’s listed as “permanently closed” on Google. That’ll definitely catch your attention, right? A screenshot of this surprising info made its rounds in a local Facebook group over the weekend, leaving both residents and visitors scratching their heads about what’s really happening.
So, here’s the scoop: While it looks like the resort has locked its doors for now, a sign posted on the entrance is waving a little green flag — it’s actually undergoing some major renovations! The changes, amounting to a juicy $34 million, are set to kick off this fall. If all goes according to plan, we can expect to see a brand new look for the resort in early 2025, just in time for the summer tourism rush. Talk about a summer comeback!
The Sandcastle is being revamped by none other than Hybridge Capital Management, a private equity firm based in California. The managing partner of this firm, Max Mellman, expressed excitement about the potential of Myrtle Beach, saying that the area is just bursting with opportunities. He said this back in July when the renovation plans were first hinted at — “Myrtle Beach, in general, just has so much potential.” Sounds promising, right?
So what can guests expect once the dust settles? The renovations will cover everything from floors to windows, and even HVAC systems. Additionally, there’s talk of a fresh club concept that will bring some awesome amenities for guests, just across the street. Imagine enjoying your vacation with all the modern facilities at your fingertips!
Once the renovation is complete, the Sandcastle will rebrand itself as a voco Hotel. That’s part of the IHG Hotels & Resorts, the folks who also manage the well-known Holiday Inn brand. Although the Myrtle Beach location isn’t listed on their site just yet, voco has already set up shop in various other wonderful destinations across the U.S., being a hit in several beach towns.
For anyone who’s been keeping their ear to the ground, affordable beach travel is becoming quite the hot topic, especially with folks relocating from expensive urban landscapes like New York and Miami. And Max Mellman believes that Myrtle Beach is in the right spot to capitalize on this shift! More tourists could mean more fun vibes, great events, and not to mention, an exciting time for local businesses as well.
While it might be sad to see the Sandcastle temporarily closed, the excitement of what’s coming next certainly fills the empty spaces! All of us in Myrtle Beach are buzzing with anticipation for this renovation to wrap up so we can see a refreshed place for tourists and locals alike to enjoy.
As every good beach day comes with sunshine and fun, the future looks exceedingly bright for both the Sandcastle and our beloved Myrtle Beach. Stay tuned, beach lovers, because 2025 is going to bring a whole new charm to the Pavillion area!
