Incident in Detail

In the late hours of Wednesday night, around 10:50 PM, a disturbing incident occurred on the 1200 block of Port Drive in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Local law enforcement officials from the Myrtle Beach Police Department (MBPD) were dispatched to assist the Highway Patrol due to an overturned vehicle.

As is standard in such situations, the officers were tasked with traffic direction and control to prevent any further accidents or issues that could arise due to the flipped vehicle. The scene was deemed as hazardous, with visibility as a concern in the late-night hours.

Officer’s Vehicle Struck

At approximately 11:15 PM, which was nearly half an hour after the officers started attending to the incident, an unfortunate event took a turn. Another vehicle crashed into the parked police car of one of the responding officers from the MBPD.

Immediate Aftermath and Injuries

According to the preliminary inspection and reports from the scene, the driver of the vehicle that collided with the police car was immediately transported to the hospital. Fortunately, it is reported that the driver did not sustain any significant injuries.

The MBPD officer – whose vehicle took the brunt of the collision, also luckily did not sustain any injuries from the incident. The details about the damage to the police car are currently under examination.

Safety Reminder by MBPD

In the aftermath of the incident, the Myrtle Beach Police Department held a statement to remind and urge the public about road safety, particularly when approaching an active scene with law enforcement, EMS, or tow trucks present. They advise drivers to slow down or, if possible and safe, move over – to not just keep themselves secure but also help keep those actively involved on the scene safe.

In Conclusion

This unfortunate incident serves as a grave reminder of the risks and hazards that our law enforcement and emergency service personnel face in their line of duty daily. Their commitment to our safety and security often goes unnoticed, and we as a community need to do our part by being responsible and vigilant on the road.
