Hey, Myrtle Beach! We’ve got a bit of a dramatic story unfolding right here in our town. Last week, the local police found themselves in a somewhat tense situation involving a man who decided to play hide-and-seek—except this was no game. His name is Robert Lee Campbell, 37, and he ended up barricading himself inside a home near our beloved Pelicans Ballpark.
So, here’s what happened: On a sunny Friday afternoon, around 1:35 PM, officers were called to the 2000 block of Greens Boulevard. They were on the hunt for a wanted person and, alas, it was Campbell. Once the police located him, instead of cooperating, he decided it would be better to take off running.
Now, let’s be real—running from the police is generally not the best decision, especially when you consider the other charges he had hanging over his head. Campbell ran into a nearby home, effectively locking himself in and causing quite the stir in the neighborhood.
With Campbell now barricaded, officers couldn’t let this situation just simmer down. They had to act quickly to ensure everyone’s safety. Officers worked diligently to handle the situation, which thankfully ended without any injuries or further drama. This isn’t our typical beach day entertainment, that’s for sure!
Once the dust settled, the police shared what they found. Campbell is facing some serious charges, including three counts of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, two counts of possession of marijuana (after already having previous encounters with the law), and possession of a firearm by an unlawful person. Oh, and that’s not all—he’s also being charged with resisting arrest and driving under suspension for the third time. Talk about being in over your head!
The reaction from the community has been a mix of relief that everyone is safe and concern over what led to this standoff. Residents near Pelicans Ballpark shared their experiences, with many saying they were just going about their day, enjoying the beautiful weather when all the chaos erupted. Some were even spotted peeking out their windows, wondering what was going on!
Myrtle Beach is typically known for its sunny beaches, friendly faces, and family fun, not police standoffs. But, unfortunately, incidents like this remind us that we can’t always predict what’ll happen in our community.
As Campbell remains in custody at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center, the authorities are probably reviewing everything that led to this event. And while we hope it stays quiet on the crime front, there’s always a chance for more community gatherings and positive events to fill our calendar!
So, there you have it, Myrtle Beach! A wild week in our peaceful town has come to a close, and we can all breathe a little easier now that everyone’s safe. Let’s keep supporting one another and enjoying all the good things our lovely city has to offer! And if you see a police officer around, be sure to give them a wave—these heroes are looking out for us every day!
