Myrtle Beach Woman Grateful to Good Samaritans for Rescuing Her Phone from the Ocean

Myrtle Beach Woman Thanks ‘Angels’ for Saving Her Phone from the Ocean

In an incredible story right from our lovely Myrtle Beach, a local woman recently had her phone rescued from the ocean by a pair of good Samaritans, and now she’s on a quest to find them! It’s not every day you get to hear about a real-life hero moment and the beach is, as always, the backdrop for unforgettable memories.

A Day of Shark Teeth and Sudden Splashes

About two weeks ago, Alexis Ginsberg Nowell was soaking up the sun on 17th Avenue South, on a casual shark tooth hunt with her husband. Now, we all know the thrill of finding a real shark tooth can be intense, but for Alexis, that excitement quickly turned into a race against the waves. “I saw a real, beautiful sharks’ tooth, so I bent down to get it,” she recalled. But in her moment of treasure hunting, her phone slipped right out of her hands and plopped into the ocean!

How many of us have feared that we would lose our phones to the water? Well, Alexis was certainly feeling that anxiety as she stood there, trying to make sense of the situation. “My husband was about 15 feet away from me — he didn’t know what was going on,” she said. Talk about a dramatic beach moment!

The Call for Help

As the waves began to embrace her phone, Alexis didn’t stay quiet. She spotted a husband and wife strolling by and let out a little plea, “I dropped my phone!” The couple, who seemed so calm about it, reassured her, “Oh, don’t worry, the tide is coming in, it’ll come back.” But they didn’t just stand there!

Without skipping a beat, they dashed over to help. One brave soul stood by the shoreline with Alexis, while the other made the bold plunge into about three feet of water in search of the missing phone. Nowell shared, “There was no sign of my phone for about 5-10 minutes.” Can you imagine the tension?

A Miracle and a Sweet Reunion

Just when all hope seemed lost, her phone was spotted! “I couldn’t believe it, so I ran to them, and I hugged them,” Alexis said, feeling immensely grateful. “I got my phone back and it was still working!” What an absolute relief! Despite the wet scare, she wanted to find out just who her rescuers were.

In a heartfelt moment, she asked them where they were from, and to her delight, they replied, “Lancaster, South Carolina.” A small world, right?

Remembering the Kind Hearts

Although she couldn’t catch the couple’s names, Alexis has a vivid memory of their outfits. “He had a peach-colored t-shirt on, and she had on a reddish blouse with shorts, and her hair was in a ponytail,” she said. It’s those small details that make these encounters memorable.

Reflecting on that sun-soaked day, she said it was a beautiful day on the beach and the couple made it even more beautiful. “Even though I saved my phone, I never ended up retrieving the shark tooth,” she chuckled.
