Hey there, Myrtle Beach! Exciting news is circling around our community as the Hard Rock Cafe Administrator of the Month for October has been announced! Drumroll, please… it’s none other than Ashley Arthur, the fantastic assistant principal at Ten Oaks Middle School! 🎉
Now, you might wonder what makes Ashley such a standout administrator. Well, folks, it’s her genuine willingness to lend a helping hand to both students and faculty alike. Everyone around her notices how she’s always all ears, ready to listen and engage with their needs. With a vibrant school of 1,272 students from grades six through eight and a dedicated team of 97 teachers, being part of this incredible school isn’t just a job for Ashley—it’s her passion!
Born and raised just outside of Huntington, West Virginia, Ashley embarked on her educational journey at Cabell Midland High School, graduating in 2000. She then took a bold step, heading to Marshall University for her undergraduate degree in elementary education. After graduating, she moved to beautiful North Myrtle Beach, where she began teaching fifth grade at Loris Elementary School.
While at Loris Elementary, Ashley didn’t just stop learning. No sir! She earned her master’s in instructional technology from Lesley University, squeezing in 11 fruitful years before taking a leap to Riverside Elementary and then Daisy Elementary. You might say education is her middle name!
At Daisy Elementary, Ashley served as the instructional coach for four years and found her mentor in then-principal Michelle Dunsford. Inspired by Michelle’s encouragement, Ashley went on to earn a second master’s degree in educational administration from Capella University. It was during her internships in both elementary and middle schools that Ashley discovered her true love for working with middle schoolers.
In her fourth year now at Ten Oaks Middle School, Ashley emphasized how transitioning from a teacher to an administrator allows her to impact even more students’ lives. “It’s a bigger platform to be in,” she explained, highlighting that this role enables her to connect with all the students, not just a select few. She’s on a mission to help students make the right choices and embark on successful careers as they grow!
Why does Ashley enjoy working with this age group so much? “They’re easy to understand and mess with and joke around with,” she said with a smile. It’s an age filled with transitions and growth, and she loves being a part of that journey.
Ashley serves as the special education administrator at Ten Oaks Middle School, and she takes immense pride in getting to know her students and their families. “I’ve helped them grow,” she said, emphasizing the importance of preparing these children for the next stage of their lives.
Deep down, Ashley always knew education was her calling. From teaching dolls as a child to guiding future leaders today, she can’t picture herself doing anything else. When she isn’t shaping young minds at Ten Oaks, you can find her lounging at the beach with friends, traveling to new destinations, or cheering on Marshall University athletics—she’s an avid fan who loves attending football and basketball games!
Oh, and a special shoutout to Ten Oaks student, Brady Boyer, for nominating her as Administrator of the Month! If you know someone who deserves recognition in our Hard Rock Cafe Administrator of the Month program, head over to myhorrynews.com/contests to get involved!
So there you have it, Myrtle Beach! We’re so proud of Ashley Arthur and her commitment to making our school a better place for everyone. Let’s give her a round of applause for the fantastic job she does every day!
