Council Revise City Rules on Noise Limitations

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – City leadership in Myrtle Beach have carried out an important update to a city ordinance dealing with excessive noise. The City Council gathered on Tuesday to pass an amendment that helps clarify the prohibited times for certain types of noise.

New Amendment Details

According to the updated ordinance, between the hours of 11 p.m. and 7 a.m., music emanating from a radio, stereo, instrument, or other devices from private properties should not be heard over an average conversation happening 100 feet away. This move is designed to promote a peaceful and serene environment, particularly during nighttime hours, for the residents of Myrtle Beach.

Exceptions to the Rule

However, the city’s law does outline a few exceptions. The ordinance will not pertain to noise resulting from sporting events, concerts, or festivals operating under a city permit. Safety signals, warning devices, and emergency vehicles are also exempted, as are church bells or chimes. Noise from the normal operation of aircraft is likewise not covered by the updated law.
