Hey Myrtle Beach! It seems that our beloved city is stepping up to ensure that our neighborhoods remain safe and beautiful. Recently, there has been a lot of buzz about the city’s efforts to crack down on crime in areas like Futrell Park, where community concerns have prompted action from the Myrtle Beach Police Department. It’s always nice to see our local authorities listening to the voices of residents and working together to tackle issues.
Through some recent investigations, we’ve learned that police conducted a major operation in the Futrell Park community, which led to a significant drug and gun bust. This took place in September, though the exact date is still under wraps. Thanks to the complaints from residents, community officers were assigned to watch over the area. Their presence aims to build a trusting relationship and to create a safer environment for everyone.
During this police investigation, authorities discovered marijuana, crack cocaine, and not one, but three firearms in a home within the neighborhood. It’s a relief to hear that law enforcement is on the lookout for these kinds of dangerous activities, especially after recent reports of shots fired in the area just a couple of weeks ago. Assistant City Manager Josh Bruegger mentioned that this kind of activity isn’t unusual in Futrell Park, which is why they were quick to assign neighborhood officers to the community.
Interestingly enough, not everyone is seeing the same issues in Futrell Park. Resident Bob Mulligan shared his perspective, stating, “I stop and talk to people who live in the houses here, and I see nothing. I don’t see anybody doing any drugs, I don’t see anybody with a gun.” It just goes to show how different folks can have different experiences, and it’s good to have those conversations within our community.
On the flip side, Deb Smith expressed concern for her neighbors. “If I had knowledge of dangerous illegal activities going on in a house next to me or close to me, I would probably call the police because it endangers people,” she said. This highlights the importance of community involvement—if you see something suspicious, it never hurts to report it.
But wait, there’s more! Another neighborhood that’s getting some attention is Ramsey Acres. The city, along with the amazing folks at Keep Myrtle Beach Beautiful, are organizing a cleanup event there! Mark your calendars for Monday, October 28, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., because they’re looking for volunteers to help remove unwanted bulky items from yards in the area. It’s a fantastic opportunity to pitch in, meet your neighbors, and keep our little slice of paradise in tip-top shape!
Being a part of a community means looking out for one another. Whether it’s reporting suspicious activities or participating in neighborhood cleanups, every little effort counts. Let’s continue to make Myrtle Beach a safe and beautiful place for all of us to enjoy. Remember, your voice matters, and your actions can truly make a difference!
