Family Seeks Justice 10 Years After Deadly Memorial Day Weekend Shooting in Myrtle Beach

The Unsettled Case

Located in South Carolina, the sunny city of Myrtle Beach reveals a painful past this Memorial Day weekend marking a decade since a tormented shooting incident claimed the lives of four unfortunate individuals. 22-year-old Sandy Gaddis Barnwell was amongst those who tragically lost their lives.

Barnwell’s aunt, Melody Gaddis McFadden, is commemorating the bitter anniversary by seeking justice for the untimely demise of her niece. Confusion clouds the case, she narrates, despite the incident happening on a bustling beach during Black Bike Week and the Memorial Day weekend. Surprisingly, the case has remained cold and unsolved.

The Harrowing Incident

Flashing back to May 24, 2014, local authorities received reports of a large scuffle taking place nearby the Bermuda Sands Motel on Ocean Boulevard. The brawl, involving several individuals, was believed by police administration to embroil some perpetrators of the subsequent shooting. The unfortunate incident resulted in the death of Barnwell, alongside other victims: 28-year-old Jamie Williams and 21-year-old Devonte Dantzler.

McFadden emphasizes the harsh reality of loss, sharing the unbearable burden of losing a loved one and persistently fighting off the shadow of gun violence.

The Plea For Justice

Preparations for a vigil in honor of the deceased victims are ongoing. Barnwell's family urges anyone with vital information to come forward and assist in delivering justice for Sandy and the other victims killed that day.

"My sister's only child did not come home from the beach," agonizes McFadden urging people with useful information regarding the murderers to contact the local authorities or Crime Stoppers.

A Community In Waiting

The city of Myrtle Beach is patiently awaiting updates from the local police department. Their silence on the matter has stirred the local community who ardently anticipate justice for the victims of this decade-old unsolved case.

McFadden's hopeful message to those who may hold vital key evidence that could unlock this unfortunate 10-year old cold case is a testament to a struggling community's search for justice.

"If they have any information about the murderers who took her life, they should give that information to Crime Stoppers or to their local police department.
