Myrtle Beach J1 Students Switch Accommodations After Host’s Alleged Inappropriate Remarks

Myrtle Beach Police Investigate Claims of Harassment Featuring J1 Visa Students

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Myrtle Beach police department is currently investigating allegations that international students, temporarily residing in the area under a J1 visa, experienced verbal sexual harassment from their host. This allegation led to the students seeking alternative accommodations. As indicated in a police report secured by HERE News Network, the host allegedly made sexually suggestive comments or lewd remarks towards some of the students.

Students Moved Despite Lack of Details

Despite a lack of specific details regarding exactly what was said, the severity of the allegations prompted these students to immediately relocate. The students then informed a housing coordinator regarding the incident, kickstarting formal investigations. The identity of the individual accused of perpetuating these inappropriate comments remains undisclosed at this time.

Impact on the J1 Student Population

Yahor Huryonovich, owner of the International Student Center in downtown Myrtle Beach, is concerned about the potential negative effects the incident may have on international students domiciled in the region for the summer. “Students from different countries don’t know how to deal with a situation like this. They usually hesitate to call the police due to the uncertainty of each step and potential danger involved,” Huryonovich expressed.

Myrtle Beach Mayor Sympathizes with International Students

Mayor Brenda Bethune echoed this empathy in her statement made available to HERE News Network. “I truly care about these students and aspire for them to have positive experiences while they work in our community. We hold our J1 students in high regard,” she stated.

Police Investigation Ongoing

When questioned for further comments regarding the case, the Myrtle Beach police department maintained that investigations are ongoing as of the time of reporting. HERE News Network will continuously provide updates as more details emerge in this sensitive case pertaining to student safety.
