Myrtle Beach Celebrates September’s HTC Community Hero: Amy Lawrence-Lovely

In the heart of Myrtle Beach, we have a shining star in our community—Amy Lawrence-Lovely. This month, she has rightfully earned the title of HTC Community Hero of the Month for her unwavering commitment to helping those in need. As a partner at The Lovely Law Firm and an attorney for the Horry County Rape Crisis Center, Amy’s passion for advocacy and service is truly inspiring.

From Events to Advocacy

Growing up in High Point, North Carolina, Amy’s journey to becoming a lawyer was anything but ordinary. With a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a hospitality management degree from East Carolina University, her early career included a myriad of roles from planning weddings to running restaurants. In fact, she humorously claims she felt like she had “lived 100 lives” before stepping into the world of law.

It was at the age of 23 that Amy decided to pursue her true calling. She turned to her family and friends and declared her commitment to becoming a lawyer. This decision was influenced significantly by her mother’s volunteer work at family court, where she saw firsthand both the challenges and the unsung heroes—attorneys—who fought for justice.

A Commitment to Service

After earning her law degree from the Appalachian School of Law in Virginia in 2008, Amy faced the tough landscape of a struggling economy as she entered the workforce. Despite this daunting challenge, she and her husband, Justin, ventured out to found The Lovely Law Firm in 2009. While they initially hoped to just secure a job, Amy’s philosophy of hard work quickly led the firm to thrive in the South Carolina legal community.

With its roots firmly planted, The Lovely Law Firm now boasts four offices across South Carolina and a dedicated team of 33 employees. A hallmark of Amy’s leadership is her commitment to kindness, respect, and community service. She practices criminal defense while maintaining a strong focus on helping victims who have endured system failures, illustrating the heart and soul she pours into her work.

A Legacy of Recognition

Over the years, Amy’s dedication has not gone unnoticed. She’s received numerous accolades, including the 2020 Supreme Court of South Carolina Pro Bono Honor Roll, along with being recognized as one of South Carolina’s top 40 under 40 lawyers, and one of the top 100 lawyers in the state by the National Trial Lawyers.

But what truly excites Amy is mobilizing her business and community for good. She passionately encourages local organizations to engage in community service, emphasizing, “When we see a physical need in our community, when we can fill it, we do.” Just recently, her firm beautified the landscaping at the Children’s Recovery Center, demonstrating how local businesses can lend a hand to uplift others.

Balancing Work and Family

Outside of her legal endeavors, Amy is a family woman at heart. She loves spending quality time with her two sons—whether it’s fishing on the beautiful waters of Myrtle Beach or taking a painting class. Her zest for life is infectious, and she truly embodies the spirit of family and community.

Celebrating Amy Lawrence-Lovely

HTC has honored Amy with a $350 donation to the Horry County Rape Crisis Center and a $100 Amazon gift card as a token of appreciation for her contributions. Amy’s story is a reminder of the power of choosing to help others and standing up for what’s right.

So, next time you’re enjoying the sunny shores of Myrtle Beach or catching up with friends, think of the incredible impact individuals like Amy Lawrence-Lovely make in our community. Remember to celebrate those who fight for justice, uplift others, and make our beloved Grand Strand a better place for all. Go, Amy!
