Myrtle Beach Hotels Step Up to Help Hurricane Helene Victims

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – October 3, 2024

When life throws a curveball, it’s often the folks right next door who step up to help. That’s precisely what’s happening here in Myrtle Beach, where several local hotels are doing their part to assist those affected by Hurricane Helene. It’s heartwarming to see businesses rally to support fellow community members, and it’s a perfect reminder of the kindness that still exists.

Many hotel operators in the area are offering serious discounts for those who found themselves in a tough spot after the storm. With some residents having lost their homes, clothes, and a lot of personal belongings, these hotels decided to extend a helping hand in more than just spirit. “We wanted to do more than just provide thoughts and prayers,” said Matt Klugman, chief operating officer for Vacation Myrtle Beach Resorts. “We can’t get up there to help head-on, but people need to get away and kind of be able to make sense of things.”

For those looking for a short getaway to catch their breath, three of their hotels, including Captain’s Quarters, hotel BLUE, and Crown Reef, are offering rooms for just $39 to $49 a night. That’s a steal! Klugman knows that many of the people affected have been loyal customers for years. “This was something that, you know, it was literally hours’ notice, and they had to clear out. People left their homes with nothing. That’s what we’re seeing—folks showing up with just the clothes on their back,” he said. It really puts into perspective the urgency and emotion behind this initiative.

Meanwhile, further north, Grande Shores Resort is also joining the cause by cutting rates for eligible guests over the upcoming weeks, as well as collecting donations. Front office manager Shaun Carter mentioned that some guests from North Carolina and Georgia have already checked in to seek shelter. “We suffer through hurricanes here quite a bit. We’ve been through several in the past few years, so we understand the tragedy that they’re going through, and how difficult it can be just to get back into the regular role of things from there,” he said. The connection to their own experiences adds a layer of empathy and helps bring the community together.

The hotel’s general manager, Jenna Hillman, recently took a drive through western North Carolina and witnessed firsthand the devastation caused by the storm. “It was definitely something I’ve never really seen firsthand, and we just want to help our neighbors and be kind, good human beings,” she said. It’s really great to see that not only are they offering discounted stays, but they’re also mobilizing their resources to provide support in whatever way they can.

Both Vacation Myrtle Beach Resorts and Grande Shores Hotel make it clear that these special rates are available only for residents from affected states, and proof of residence is required. It’s fantastic how the community is coming together to ensure those who truly need a break can find some peace and comfort.

As the weeks pass, let’s keep our folks in the affected areas in mind and continue to support our local hotels who are doing their best to brighten the lives of those in need. The incredible spirit of Myrtle Beach shines brightly in times like these, proving once again that we’re all in this together!
