New 24-story Oceanfront Hotel Set to Transform Myrtle Beach’s Horizon

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina – A proposal for a new 24-story oceanfront hotel in Myrtle Beach could be the next skyline-altering structure along the lively beachfront stretch of Ocean Boulevard and 23rd Avenue North. The yet-to-be-approved plan outlines the emergence of a high-rise luxury hotel that promises to add to the allure and diversify the tourism portfolio of this southern gem.

Council Moves Forward with Rezoning for High-Rise Project

On Tuesday, the city council took a definitive step towards bolstering the tourism landscape of the area, proactively paving the way for the implementation of this new project. The council has successfully passed the first reading of two pivotal ordinances that, if approved after a second reading, will allow for the development of this proposed hotel along with an adjoining four-story parking garage.

The project is projected to be a substantial investment of over $100 million. The hotel is envisioned not just as a mere lodging facility, but an ecosystem centered around hospitality that includes public amenities and spaces, making them more functional and aesthetically pleasing for visitors and residents alike.

Major Infrastructure Developments Included in the Plan

The comprehensive plan includes eight pieces of land for the various proposed developments. These range from practical installations like a mobile check-in lot to grand endeavors such as a canopied plaza and space for restaurants. The hotel itself is expected to house 255 units and there’s a likelihood of incorporating a couple of in-house restaurants, adding to its appeal.

Addressing Parking Concerns

The proposal hasn’t been without its challenges. City council members and officials alike are debating the issue of parking availability in association with the proposed hotel. The existing regulation meets the requirements for parking capacity, but there are concerns about whether more parking might be needed. These concerns center around the number of vehicles guests typically bring when they travel to the beach with their families.

Next Steps

The proposal’s next steps include a second reading by the city council. Only after a series of due checks and validations will it finally pass through and morph into a tangible development.

The potential new addition to Myrtle Beach’s cityscape signifies the city’s constant evolution as a tourist destination. This development, if approved, will become part of its rich tapestry of hotels that currently number around 420, eagerly awaiting the nearly 19 million tourists that flock to this vacation hotspot annually.
