Ceiling Collapses in Myrtle Beach Home After Tenants Repeatedly Ask Property Manager for Help

Residents of a home in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, have been pushed out of their residence following the collapse of their ceiling early Tuesday morning. This incident was the latest in a series of issues the occupants have reported with their living conditions.

Decaying Natural Conditions

Tawanna White, a resident at the home, expressed her concerns  “The whole house is falling apart and we’re about to die. That’s the way we felt” while discussing the calamitous event. She reports that structural problems have persisted since the family moved in four years ago. Attempting to convey the gravity of the situation, White remarked, “Every single week, I have to mop my walls from them sweating and stuff draining from them.”

Complaining of breathing difficulties due to malfunctioning air conditioning, White stated that the appliance only functions in the front part of the house.

Living amid Harsh Conditions

Tidrekiel White, Tawanna White’s 13-year-old son, also described his living conditions as nearly intolerable, especially due to the difficulty in breathing within the confines of the dilapidated home. He stated, “It’s hard for me to breathe in the house and I really can’t stay in the house”.

The severeness of the situation didn’t stop at the hazardous living conditions. Evidence of water leakage was witnessed in the collapsed section of the home’s ceiling, which White believes might be the reason for the recent ruin.

Vocalizing the Issues

Ammons Properties Inc., the property manager for the home, has been informed of the conditions. Steven Jordan, projects and cold storage manager for Ammons, has acknowledged the issue and is working on securing repair crews.

While Jordan declined to comment on camera, he did mention that they planned to cover the cost of a motel for the displaced family. Shortly after, White provided a screenshot of text messages from Jordan, confirming his promise for motel reimbursement and his plan to dispatch an A/C repair company along with a team to attend to the collapsed ceiling.

Hope for Immediate Repairs

By Tuesday afternoon, a maintenance worker from the property management company visited the house to investigate the water leakage. It is anticipated that the necessary repairs will be promptly carried out.
