News Summary

Myrtle Beach is witnessing significant changes in its health sector, particularly near Myrtlewood Golf Club. A new medical center, the Coastal Cancer Oncology Center, is set to open, providing vital healthcare services. Additionally, improvements from Conway Medical Center and South Strand Medical Center will enhance healthcare options for residents. These developments are part of a larger strategy to accommodate the growing population and meet the rising healthcare demands in the area.

Myrtle Beach: A Health Hub Near Myrtlewood Golf Club

Big changes are happening in Myrtle Beach, particularly in the health sector! If you’re a fan of hitting the greens at Myrtlewood Golf Club, you might be interested in the exciting developments sprouting up nearby. The area is not just a golfer’s paradise anymore; it’s transforming into a vital health hub.

New Medical Center on the Horizon

A brand new medical center is set to rise at 4500 Wild Iris Drive. It’s a part of the larger trend of growth that’s sweeping through Myrtle Beach, with new homes and apartment complexes popping up everywhere. The buzz is that the Coastal Cancer Oncology Center has secured a building permit for an impressive 13,400-square-foot treatment center, which reflects the growing demand for healthcare services in the area.

Located conveniently between Wild Iris Drive and Highway 17 Bypass North, this single-story facility will cater to the needs of residents as they tackle health challenges close to home. With an investment of about $1 million, this move shows just how committed developers are to enhancing community health.

Expanding Healthcare Options

Healthcare facilities are buzzing with activity in Myrtle Beach. In addition to the new endeavors near Myrtlewood Golf Club, the Conway Medical Center has recently opened a primary care and dermatology office in the Grande Dunes area. This launch signifies a growing effort to cater to the increasing population and healthcare demands in the region. Furthermore, residents can expect more exciting news as South Strand Medical Center plans to expand its services with a state-of-the-art hospital.

This new hospital, envisioned to include 59 inpatient beds and four operating rooms, will be located just a block past Farrow Parkway. The CEO of South Strand Medical expressed pride in how this facility will enhance healthcare options for the community. The existing South Strand Medical has expanded tremendously since its humble beginnings as a 124-bed facility back in 1978, now boasting a total capacity of 403 beds.

Future Growth on the Agenda

As the city’s planning commission reviews expansion projects, approvals are anticipated in early 2025, with hopes of completing the South Strand hospital by 2028. Not only will this hospital address the current needs, but it is also a proactive strategy considering that South Carolina’s population is projected to soar past 6.4 million by 2042, with Horry County expected to experience the most significant growth.

More Facilities, More Jobs

In a sign of the times, healthcare leaders are working hard to recruit staff to fill new roles created by these expansions. The Conway Medical Center is also on the move, planning to build a new emergency department in its Socastee complex, set to open in October 2026. The new 12,150-square-foot facility is designed to accommodate over 10,000 patient visits annually, indicating just how serious the area is about meeting healthcare needs.

The Myrtle Beach City Council is also playing its part by paving the way for construction of a proposed new hospital next to South Strand Medical Center, annexing 40 acres to facilitate this vital project.

Conclusion: A Healthier Myrtle Beach Awaits

With all these exciting developments, Myrtle Beach is not only becoming a sought-after golfing destination but also emerging as a comprehensive healthcare community. Golfers who enjoy hitting the links can feel reassured knowing that quality healthcare services are just around the corner. It’s a win-win for both the avid golfer and the community at large, highlighting that Myrtle Beach is truly a place where health and leisure can thrive together.
