Myrtle Beach Mourns the Loss of Beloved K9 Yep

This past Saturday was a sad day for our Myrtle Beach community as we learned of the unexpected passing of Retired K9 Yep. This loyal pup had spent five wonderful years serving alongside the Myrtle Beach Police Department and left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. The news hit hard as Yep’s death was announced via the department’s Facebook page, where they shared that she passed away surrounded by family and friends.

A True Hero

Yep wasn’t just any ordinary dog. She was a dual-purpose K9, meaning she was trained in both narcotics detection and patrol work. With her handler, PFC. Struckus, she played a vital role in keeping our community safe. Whether it was sniffing out drugs or helping in apprehensions, Yep proved time and time again that she was more than just a good dog; she was a dedicated member of our police force.

Chief Prock expressed the collective grief of the entire department and the community, stating, “Our team and community share in the loss of Yep. Our K-9 program is an invaluable part of our team and family, and Yep will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to PFC. Struckus and our entire Unit.” It’s heartwarming to see just how much she meant to everyone!

A Community Coming Together

The Myrtle Beach Police Department is asking all of us to keep PFC. Struckus close in our thoughts as he navigates this difficult time. Loss is never easy, and the bond between a K9 and their handler is truly special. The connection formed in the line of duty is indescribable, and losing a partner can leave a huge void.

As RIP Yep has made her way to the great dog park in the sky, the department took a moment to thank her for her unwavering loyalty and commitment to our community. There are many residents who will remember her fondly, whether it was in the form of community events where she’d show off her skills or simply seeing her and PFC. Struckus out and about in the neighborhood. Like many of you, she had a way of lighting up our days.

A Special Place in Our Hearts

Though she may no longer be with us, it’s clear that Yep has left paw prints on our hearts. The police department has assured the community that she will never be forgotten. Her legacy will live on in the stories shared among officers, families, and friends who had the pleasure of encountering her. From playful barks to devoted snuggles, Yep certainly knew how to bring a smile to anyone’s face!

Remembering the Bright Spot in Our Days

So, Myrtle Beach, let’s take a moment to honor this incredible K9 for her service and the joy she brought into our lives. As we reflect on her contributions, let’s also think of her handler, PFC. Struckus, who is surely feeling the weight of this loss. If you see him around, give him a wave or offer a warm smile—it can make a world of difference.

At the end of the day, Yep was not just a police dog; she was a member of our Myrtle Beach family. Whenever we encounter a dog wagging its tail in the park or on the beach, let’s remember Yep and all the good she did during her time with us. Here’s to a pup who served with honor and will be missed by many!
