Family fun and music at Myrtle Beach’s free gospel festival

A symphony of voices on the sandy shores of Myrtle Beach

As the sun gently set on the radiant shore of Myrtle Beach, the serene soundtrack of lapping waves was uniquely melded with syncopated rhythms, rousing choruses, and soaring soprano solos. The sixth Annual Myrtle Beach Waves of Praise Gospel Festival transformed the tranquil Burroughs and Chapin Pavilion into a vibrant hub of soulful harmony and family fun over the weekend, as the community came together for shared merriment and passionate music. This year’s festival star was headlined by three-time Grammy Award winner, Tasha Cobbs Leonard.

Music, craft and food in abundance

A festival representative excitedly highlighted the diversity and breadth of activities on offer. “It’s a family affair; we have something for everybody. Arts and crafts, vendors, different food trucks and a wealth of information for the public. And, of course, outstanding music. Performances for the young, the middle-aged, and the older – there truly is something for everyone2, said Reggie Dyson, an Event Promoter for the event.

Supporting local initiatives

Whilst admission to the festival remained free, event participants were encouraged to bring nonperishable food items for donation to local food banks. A gesture that proves how the festival is about more than just entertainment. It provides an opportunity for the community to come together not only in song, but in a shared commitment to caring for its most vulnerable members.

A Stellar Line-up of Gospel Talent

The event boasted a spectacular roster of over 25 nationally and regionally acclaimed gospel artists. The stellar line-up featured a variety of styles, ranging from traditional gospels to soul and contemporary Christian music, attracting a diverse crowd of enthusiasts from throughout the region.

To have a three-time Grammy Award-winner such as Tasha Cobbs Leonard, at the helm of the festival, certainly boosted its appeal. Her fluid blend of worship songs and popular gospel hits were well-received, inspiring congregational singalongs and dancing in the aisles. She was just one amongst many who took the stage to make the occasion a memorable one. The festival certainly affirmed its place as a go-to event for not only Myrtle Beach residents, but gospel music fans from across the nation.

A festival to remember

The sixth Annual Myrtle Beach Waves of Praise Gospel Festival was undoubtedly a celebration of music, faith, family, and community service. Myrtle Beach became more than just a renowned tourist destination; it became a vibrant community united by devotion, music and compassionate service. One can only anticipate the thrill that next year’s event is sure to bring.
